Perfect comfort diner food that really didn't leave me wanting anything else. It completely satisfied every desire and need I had for that food, and no, I wasn't even tipsy. Best waffle of my life, best biscuits and gravy, fluffiest omelet that somehow was super tasty with only onion and tomato in it. And of course, perfect buttered toast. The service was good, but we also were not there at peak drunk person hour--although there was a guy completely wasted at the bar, and a kind elderly gay couple next to us just smiled at us and told us to ignore him. Definitely not a family diner, but somewhere great for before or after a night of enjoyment. Also, they had two options for gravy: sausage and plain. Where can you get plain gravy in the south!?!? I was stunned and way more than pleased. As a vegetarian, I thought I would never have the chance to try true southern style biscuits and gravy if I were to avoid meat. Way to be, sirs of Clover Grill.

This place has always been a oasis in a sea of drunkenness that is Bourbon St. If you're in the mood for a late night diner, Clover Grill is the place to go. I recommend sitting at the bar because the staff there are really friendly to speak to. Me, my wife, and her friend had a great time there after a night in the Quarter. The burgers were juicy and delicious and any diner that serves tots is a big plus. The milkshakes are hand-spun and absolutely wonderful. Overall, its definitely a place to check out for good late night eats.

During my days of going out and staying out until 4AM, Clover Grill was the place to get your breakfast after a night of debauchery. I went for breakfast during the regular morning time. The scene was definitely quieter and more slow paced compared to eating late at night. You pretty much can't go wrong with breakfast. The menu is funny in that it has all these smart and bitchy side remarks for almost every item on the menu. Don't be surprised if you see customers reading the menu and laughing to themselves.

This place is everything I'd expect of a classic greasy spoon diner, done NOLA-style. The food was exactly what my group needed after a long night at Flanagan's and Molly's. We had biscuits with thick gravy, pancakes, eggs, tater tots, and a chili burger with no bun for me. Everything was the perfect sort of greasy goodness we were hoping for. The service was terrific, too. There was a little bit of snark, but that was probably because we looked like a bunch of drunken tourists at 4:30am. Which, to be fair, we at least sort of were. With most of the group originally from NJ, a little bit of ribbing with our 4am drunk breakfast was welcome. I make semi-regular trips to NOLA, so I will be making more trips to the Clover Grill.

I went there on christmas eve, the place is small and cute. I liked how local it is. i ordered a build your own burger, and a side french fries. The burger was delicious, how ever the french fries seemed frozen for ages; it wasn't tasty at all. The prices are reasonable.

It is what it is people. :) We knew by reputation that the service is...unique. We waited...and waited...and waited...and finally sat. But it was SO worth it. The burgers were tasty and we even played some tunes on the jukebox. Part of the NOLA experience. :) Let's just hope you don't have to go to the bathroom...yikes.

Delicious! Great music! Nice place for a casual burger in a throwback diner! Love it! Great burgers and yummy tater tots! Love the atmosphere of an old diner. Simple food is sometimes the best!

Clover Grill is Exactly what a diner should be. Simple and sassy. I stumbled into this diner after getting separated from my friends with a dead phone battery, and locked out of the vacation house. It was probably around 2:30 or 3:00am, and the place was moderately busy when I grabbed a spot at the counter. There were two or three people working, including the cook, but it's a small diner. I ordered a couple scrambled eggs and hash browns. The crowd was a good variety of people and good for doing a little people watching, but I was mostly just hungry. My server brought the perfect attitude to his job. The first thing I noticed was that he was singing along with some of the songs and seemed to be having fun. He was friendly but didn't feel like he needed to chat everyone up. Then I noticed that his t-shirt didn't say Clover Grill, it said Clover Girl, which I thought was a pretty funny play on words since he was obviously gay. A couple guys sat down next to me at the counter and one of them was kind of peeved that he wasn't getting served as quickly as he wanted. My feeling was that the speed of service was on par with any chain breakfast restaurants. As long as my order is taken and I get a drink, I don't expect to have my order come out too quickly at 3am in a diner. The cook was also in plain view, so you could see what you were getting in to before you even sat down. My order was for some of the most basic diner food you could choose, and it was exactly as it should've been; like it was made on a well used grill that has seen a lot of meals. I highly recommend this place for some good, basic, get to the point diner food in a laid back environment.

Gotta love a hole in the wall, small diner with the grill right behind the counter...my co-guests loved their omelettes saying they were fluffy and filling. I went traditional 2 eggs, sausage patties, hashbrowns and toast....and it was all cooked perfectly, the sausage was juicy and delicious and the hashbrowns perfectly golden and crispy on the edges. The cook was so personable and amazing how in such a small space they could put out food so fast and delicious. Since it's a 24hr spot, anytime is a good time to check it out.

Perhaps the best burger I have ever had, and they give you the options to have "tater tots" instead of fries. That's a first. This place is stuck in a time warp. Looks like it must have 50 years ago. Loved it...

Cheap, open all night. Food is greasy and a little gross but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Ran into this diner on My trip to NOLA Early December 2011 with my BF. GREAT PLACE, GREAT FOOD, NICE PEOPLE. The Pork Chop And Eggs was my favorite! my Bf had the breaded chicken and eggs, Their Mean is nice and moist, NOT dried, cooked perfectly. Their Menu is limited but It works, they are open all night, and the people that work there are so nice and helpful

In proper Bourbon Street style, It's 3AM and you're uncontrollably drunk. All the ragin' cajun shops are closed and there's nothing your stomach wants more than food to feed the moment. Since you're probably not in the mood for more bar food, what can do you do? The answer is Clover Grill. The burger is legit and the fries are even more so. They deliver a lot of burger and a double lot of fries, all for less than what you'll probably spend at a proper restaurant. It's not "New Orleans" food, but it's definitely food that's perfect for the French Quarter. Highly recommend.

This is a tiny place with overworked servers. They are on the verge of being rude - like Flo at Mel's Diner with the "Kiss My Grits". The food was okay, but really really greasy and they nickel and dime you for every item. We had a 3 egg omelet with hash browns and toast for $5.99. We added tomatoes and that was 79 cents extra, onions were 79 cents extra, cheese was $1 extra. I can see charging for cheese but onions? Really? That just seems petty. I'd rather they just tell you you're paying $9 for an omelet and let it go. We went there again a couple days later for a late night burger. One bite of that burger made me forget all about the breakfast experience. Hands down the best burger I have EVER had. So freakin good. It was about $10 for a custom dressed up burger and so worth it. It's a big tourist spot so be prepared to wait.

Cheap, good, enthusiastic and friendly service. I went here for both post boozing burgers and breakfast. Both were equally as good. It's not gourmet stuff. It's just solid diner food.

Stopped in for a quick bite before going to set this morning. Was famished and a bit hung over from the gig last night so I ordered a waffle, and a bacon and mushroom omelette. Was disappointed that they didn't do egg-whites. The cook was in training so my omelette was tore up from the floor up. I'll give him a pass because he was under the watchful eye of one of the old-timers and I could tell he was nervous with mother hen looking over his shoulder critiquing his every move. I've always received great service and I always met interesting people in there. The last time I ate there one of the patrons paid for my meal after I gave up my seat to let him join his family at the counter. No such luck this time just an old guy trying to sell me home-made soap.

As many have said before me, the Clover Grill is a greasy spoon, and oh, what a greasy spoon it is. I'm a germaphobe type, so places like this usually skeeve me out (ok all restaurants skeeve me out a little, working in the service industry will do that to you). There's visible grease/mold/dirt/filth on the walls and floors and a/c vents---basically most everywhere. Luckily, all of the cooking is done out front on a flat top griddle like a typical diner and that sets me at ease a little about the cleanliness of my food...sort of. Anyway, being fully aware of what I was getting myself into, we ventured here for a late lunch after scooping up some monsoons at Port of Call (skipping the hour and a half wait there for the much more time friendly Clover). We sat down and waited about 10-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us---but hey it's that kind of place and we got to talk to some random guy about his Hell's Kitchen audition. I ordered a cheeseburger and manfriend got the chicken fried steak breakfast with sunny side up eggs and hashbrowns. My burger was pretty freaking good--regular old grocery store sesame bun, but the actual patty and cheese was tasty. And I have to say it, I enjoyed it better than the last one I had at Cowbell a week or two ago (sorry Cowbell). The chicken fried steak was actually delicious as well. The gravy on top tasted great, but was overly thick and had a gelatinousness and skin to it that was off-putting. Sunny side up eggs weren't quite cooked long enough and a little too runny, but manfriend didn't seem to mind. They take credit cards (unusual for a small place like this in the quarter) and let you come inside with your drinks (mmm, Monsoons). Oh and right before we left, someone requested Whitesnake on the jukebox. I needed a little "Here I Go Again" in my life, obviously. All in all, if you are drunk you will LOVE this place. If you are sober, have a drink, talk to your neighbor, pay for a Whitesnake song and ignore the dirt--it's a good stop for a quick meal in the FQ and even better if you don't want to leave beloved Bourbon.

We love to stop here at anytime of day because they will always make you breakfast! A classic greasy spoon diner with friendly staff and delicious milk shakes. Their biscuits are the best.

Who doesn't love the Clover Grill? The burgers here are a late night staple along with the fries. Love the throw back diner atmosphere and this place is always packed with character. The people watching here gets 5 stars as I have never left without a story. This is a diner people so don't expect fine cuisine!

Dateline: 3:30 pm, the French Quarter, a lazy Saturday afternoon and hungry... Just as we were wandering aimlessly thru the quarter I vaguely remember the mention of some kind of hubcap burger place. With the idea now firmly planted in our heads, the adventure now became a mission. It only took the first local passing by to quickly turn us in the direction, pointing and saying, "Oh, you want the Clover Grill, 'bout 5 blocks up from here." While I can imagine what this small place would look like during the late night hours of debauchery and controlled chaos, now it seemed like any quiet corner diner that has been through the routine a million times plus. We sat at the counter and waited in anticipation. The "cooked under the hubcap" burger themselves were meaty and moist with just the right amount of soul satisfying greasy factor to them. Topped with some decent cheddar and grilled onions and coupled with some just-out-of-the-fryer fries, they buried the happy meal meter to the max. With 60's Motown playing and 3 for 1 beers from across the street this was the perfect, right place at the right time on Bourbon St. for us that sunny day.

This use to be a fav in NOLA. Now we are guarded about eating here. We went in to meet a friend already sitting we were going to sit down but because we were saying hi to our friend first on of the ass holes threw us all out - including our friend that was already sitting. FOR STANDING IN THE ISLE.... and he was a complete ass. The owners should really watch who they hire or they will lose all their business.

This was a great place! A little hole in the wall, a ways down Bourbon, close to Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. Limited seating, but the food was really good and it was crazy cheap. We stopped in for breakfast and didn't need to eat for the rest of the day! Staff was really polite, everything cooked to order. Will definitely be going back the next time we're in NOLA.

This is an awesome place to go eat when you are drunk. You might regret it later, but you will enjoy it while you are there. Lot's of fried goodness, but I'd probably skip the chicken fried steak. Mine was just OK last time. Expect to smell like eau du bacon when you leave. The service is fine, with a touch of attitude, which is to be expected considering how many drunken fools these folks have to deal with. Be polite, tip well, and don't linger around too long if others are waiting to be seated (it happens, since the diner is very tiny).

I was in need of comfort food today so headed to the "World Famous" Clover Grill at the corner of Bourbon and Dumaine in the French Quarter. The Clover Grill has been a Quarter institution since 1939. And from the looks of the place, not much has changed since then. No pretense here. About a dozen tattered red swivel stools line the counter. 6 tables line the windows along Bourbon Street. There's one griddle where Sheika cooks the 8 ounce burgers under "an American made hubcap." French fries are fried to order - no food staying lukewarm under lights. She aptly made omelets, got a malt going in the machine, and cooked burgers all at the same time. Reading the menu provides entertainment. Here are some of the jokes on the menu: "If you're not served in 5 minutes, it may be another 5. Relax. This isn't New York City." "Dancing in the aisles only. Please keep off the tables." "No strange tricks at tables, please. Please keep hands on top of the table." "No talking to yourself." "We don't eat in your bed, so please don't sleep at our table." And, "You've paid the price, now look how much you've gained." I ordered a burger dressed ($5.49) and an order of fries ($2.49). The burger was juicy and the fries hot & crispy. It hit the spot! The Clover Grill is located at 900 Bourbon Street and is open 24/7. Omelets, waffles & burgers are available all day long. For a no frills, good burger and a cast of characters behind the counter and next to you - the Clover Grill is a good bet. (Pictures available on my blog: "Native Palate.")

Nola is one of our favorite cities in the US and I just love love love the Clover Diner...located in the "gayborhood" way down Bourbon, you get delightful colorful characters that work there and the food is just awesome...Ive only gotten the burger and fries every time I go...its a hole in the wall...you will get off the wall comments from the staff and some customers too...its not kid friendly...but an open minded adult will have a blast...i know we do.

One of those classic diners thats small and just cute - giving it so many stars was a must. Friendly service. Lots of fun options for meat eaters like big ass burgers, but as a vegetarian I had to go for the grilled cheese which did not even come with fries. Ah this review might be actually for 3.5 stars. The grilled cheese plus shared tater tots cost me about $7 bucks plus tip, and it wasn't filling enough. Hmm... but great joint for late night grub. Just try catering to more people! It is also at the end of Bourbon Street, tourist mania.

Someone told me to go here because of the biscuits and gravy. So I did with a couple other people. Our server who looked like Ben Kingsley was a curmudgeon you love. The biscuits and gravy was good and the gravy had sausage in it which made it even better. My vanilla milkshake wasn't bad either. It wasn't busy on a Sunday night.

Love it. Never had bad food. You know it's fresh off the grill... For hells sake you watch it cook! Staff have always been friendly, perhaps some dry humor. Its somewhere I go each visit to NOLA for a "fix".

Tried twice, didn't even eat there. Worst customer service ever! The first night the waiter yelled that they were full (2 empty seats at the bar) and we'd have to wait outside. Tried again the next morning and the woman who was clearing dishes told the couple in front of us they'd have to wait, she didn't seat people or take orders. I've never seen such rudeness.

  • Benny L.

God, I hate this place. I'd give it 1 star, but I at least got mediocre service and a mediocre burger. The rest of the folks in my party weren't so lucky. We went around 3 in the afternoon, and sat at the counter without a wait. I ordered first, and before my friends could order, the guy walks away. After he waits on a couple more groups we try to flag him down. His reply? "Well what were you doing when I was over here the first time? You're gonna have to wait," and he walks off again. A few more minutes go by, we flag him down again, and he comes up with some other excuse to not serve them. He's flat out rude to them, just being a diva. We decide that they're going elsewhere and I'll scarf down my burger and catch up in a bit. I get my burger, and it's - well, it's a greasy diner burger. Nothing special. I got my check and paid it pretty quickly, but I left a lousy tip. Seems only fair for lousy service. I'm sorry, but you can't pick and choose who you wait on. I don't know if it's because my friends were Asian and Indian, or what, but that was ridiculous. Never coming back.

Went in after Sunday tea. Had a hamburger with cheese, chili and onions. They charge for every topping. Had I know this ahead of time I would have went and got a lucky dog where you get the works. I will say that if you are going for entertainment value you get your money's worth they staff are very entertaining and the place i don't think has changed much from the day it was opened. They steam the burger under an old hubcap. They also hand batter the onion rings and they are fantastic.

So we're in the French Quarter, juiced up in 151 and 190 proof slushies. I'm not in the mood for gumbo or po-boys. Just want some breakfast. Alas, Clover Grill appears on a corner property just down Bourbon Street. Robbie was a sweatheart and our breakfast was yummy. The prices are cheap and the dive vibe was just what we needed. We visited this place about 4 times whilst in New Orleans. Open 24 hours! Bought one of their staff t-shirts just for a keepsake. :-)

Really slow service and everything is frozen. The workers are also rude. Skip it and do something easier.

  • BroSauce J.

Nothing will bring you back to life quite like their burgers, which, according to their menu, are cooked under an old hubcap. How can you not love the Clover? Like other 24-hour diners, the food probably tastes way better at 2 am than 2 pm, but it's all part of the fun. Add in the post-club Bourbon Street hoi polloi and it's total mayhem, not unlike Orphan Andy's back home. And don't forget some of the hilarious banter scribbled throughout the menus. My personal fave: "You can beat our prices, but you can't beat our meat." Words to live by!

    (4)
  • Caro M.

word on the street is that they make a mean ass burger a la hubcaps... I wouldn't know though because I don't usually do beef. After curing our hangovers with a morning cocktail at Cafe Lafitte, we headed over to Clover Grill for a feast for fatty champs. Butta'd bread, butta'd fluffy omlettes with cheese, hash browns and coffee. This place was good. Everyone was satisfied with their plates and left the establishment with full tummies and clogged arteries. The wait was long... it was crackin' on a Saturday morning. Of course, with location being prime on Bourbon and all, it only makes sense tourists like me would hit this place up. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place, however- if you're in the vicinity and feinding a plate of grease and yummy yummy fatness, order an entree here. You won't be disappointed.

Maybe I didn't have enough to drink before going in. It looked promising. A little greasy spoon on Bourbon Street open 24 hours, and the perfectly fitting staff that looks like they've been there from the start. We stuck with burgers, the price was fine, and the burgers were actually better than I expected, 'dressed' came with lettuce, mayo, and a pickle I think. Tator tots on the side cost $3 each and we only got a small handful each, but they were cooked to golden perfection. But it's Bourbon Street, so really, the prices weren't bad. The burger is cooked under an old hubcap and it wasn't too shabby, for a diner. There are much better places to go if you are looking for a good burger and wouldn't recommended this as 'one of the best'. However, if your drunk, and needing that greasy diner fix, and in the area, check it out.

I love going to Clover Grill. Great burgers & fries. They always have great music and sassy boys waiting on you. I bought my husband a t- shirt.... we love to fry and it shows. One night I saw a guy eat mustard with a spoon. I love New Orleans.

Walked in for a late lunch on 9/9 and nobody there would acknowledge my wife and I. Two workers were sitting at the counter and didn't look up when we walked in. Someone walked out of the kitchen and walked right past us. We got up and and I said thanks for nothing. They then looked at me with blank stares. There were no other patrons in the restaurant. We will never go back. Would have given zero stars if I was able to do so.

Disclaimer: Clover Grill was experienced while 100% sober. This review was written while 100% sober. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about this place, situated right across the street from the storied Lafitte's in Exile. We were looking for some late-night dinner and Yelp seemed to have good things to say, so we peered in the window. It looks simple enough on the inside, with a huge counter that arcs around the grill and a smattering of tables lining the Bourbon Street wall. The decor is entirely diner. One thing kept us from going in: the place was packed! Virtually every seat was filled, so we killed some time outside waiting for a table or something opened up. A fellow approached us, unsolicited. "It took about 45 minutes to get our food," he mumbles. Without encouragement, he continued: "Wasn't worth it." We decided to take the advice of fellow Yelpers over our little-while friend, took a deep breath, and squeezed into two adjacent counter seats and waited for someone to take our order... ... and waited, and waited, and waited. After what really did seem like half the evening, one of the cooks came over and glowered at us, and we ordered. The burgers start at $5.49 and toppings cost extra (between $1.00 and $1.50 for bacon and other assorted accoutrements). Some tater tots on the side were extra ($2.59), and we rounded out the order with a strawberry shake ($3.49). We watched them cook our food and deliver the milkshake to the wrong table (much to the confusion and delight of a tangle of inebriated coeds), and before long, the burgers were in front of us -- and boy, were they GOOD. Not too greasy, like other reviewers are complaining, but rather flavorful, piping hot, and awfully filling. We couldn't have asked for a more delicious dinner. Long story short, the burgers here are great, the atmosphere is fun, and the location really can't be beat. You might have to put up with tired or grumpy service and a wait, though, if our experience was at all representative. (The first smile I got was when I left a tip!) We didn't even get any of the "sass" this place promises to deliver, although I'm starting to think it was better to be safe than sorry.

This is THE place to go after a long night of drinking on Bourban or Frenchmen. When it's dead, you'll get your order within minutes. However, when it's busy, be prepared to wait. They have a small kitchen and usually a lot of drunk, hungry folks. That's ok because while you wait, you can meet some great people and listen to interesting stories.

I am giving Clover Grill 5 stars because I never want to go to NOLA and it not be there. You never know what you are going to get, but, honey, I promise you it will be interesting! A true gay vortex.

Awesome greasy spoon. Sure, it's dingy and greasy, but it has tons of character, and you can't beat the prices. It's like a living museum! Sit at the counter. Great story about this place: Some friends and I were visiting last St Patrick's Day weekend. One guy was still passed out drunk at 11 am, and the other two were staying at another hotel, so my buddy Vig and I wandered around the Quarter. At one corner, a great-looking young woman came up to us and asked if we knew a good place for lunch. We walked a block up to the Clover Grill and went in. She told us a whole sad story about how her boyfriend kicked her out of their hotel room for getting too drunk the previous night and hurting his knee by making him carry her home. We bought this girl lunch and chatted quite a bit. I got her phone number and gave her mine (my friend Vig is married) but assumed we wouldn't hear from her again. We figured my cause was lost when she ordered a hot dog to take back to the hotel for the boyfriend. We were correct; maybe she and the boyfriend made up. She also gave me the number of her friend who lives in Chicago (where I live), which I thought was hilarious. Later my friend said, "It's cool to pay for HER, but you shouldn't have bought the BOYFRIEND'S lunch too." Ha ha, he was totally right. I'm such a chump. But that was a fun hour at the Clover Grill. Go there.

Clover Grill has been one of my favorite late night haunts since I was in college and drinking on Bourbon. The food is consistently greasy diner and yummy and the service is friendly despite the warnings otherwise on the menu. I've never been disappointed with the food there. It's cheap yummy goodness and always open, you can't beat that!

BOO BOO BOO! How can a restaurant refuse to make adjustment on the menu. I like my hash browns, done extra well. I don't order hash browns I always ask for Hash Blacks, so they understand I want them well done. The waiter was like the cook makes them one way. Are you for real, your can't cook my hash blacks. Even after I said I would pay extra, they still did make them any different then the 7 other people in the group. Also they use so much butter and everything the food slides around on the plate like it is on water slide. I will not be back here and you should not unless you want an heart attack and raw hash browns. BOO BOO BOO.

The Clover is a great place to come after the bars let out. The interior is charming with red vinyl barstools at the counter and big booths. The menu is diner food with a NOLA-flair and the staff is very friendly. It's also a great place to people watch and it's open 24 hours!

It shouldn't be as good as it is. That was my thought most of the time I was eating breakfast here before catching a flight back to SFO. If you look at the facts of this place, it's nothing to write home about. A decent amount of the food comes out of Sysco boxes, the menu isn't anything to write home about, and there's no one dish here that you can't get a million other places. Now, having said that, Clover is one of those rare places that just ends up being more than the sum of it's parts. The staff are extremely nice and obviously take pride in their work. The food is simple, but it's exactly what you think the food in a diner like this should be. The counter has a few regulars reading a newspaper, and chatting up the cook. They don't try to be anything but a good simple diner, and frankly I find that refreshing as hell in a world where every place seems to be trying to be more than what they are and usually failing at it. As far as the food goes, my eggs were a perfect over-medium, the grits were great, the toast was nice and buttery, and the coffee was good and strong. That's it. No organic, free-trade, cage-free, blah blah blah. Just a good simple American breakfast in a place that has real soul.

My travel buddy and I ate our last meal in NO here before getting on the plane for home. We had cheesy grits and they were fabulous! Our waiter was fabulous too. Loved this place!

GREASY....everything from the floor to my eyeballs felt greasy by the time I walked out of this 24 hour spot on Bourbon Street. Stopped in with a few guy friends on the way out for the night. Everything was mediocre at best, including service. The food would probably have tasted a lot better after a night out on Bourbon Street. I really didn't like my chicken sandwich but at least they had tater tots to make me happy. Didn't try the eggs or any breakfast items or a burger, so may have to give it another try.

A bit on the ghetto side. The cook is a total diva w a good helping of attitude but the food was very good. Cheap n excellent when all other kitchens n closed on bourbon street in the middle of night. Their omelettes looked amazing and fluffy but I didn't get a chance to try them.

If you're stumbling around the French Quarter late at night with a growling stomach, Clover Grill is the diner to visit. Surrounded by the bars of Bourbon Street, Clover Grill stands all on its own with the "World's Best Hamburgers" and a vivacious staff. My go-to are the cheeseburgers with a side of fries. My boyfriend's favorite is the chicken fried steak and eggs with grits. Cooked to perfection, the chicken fried steak is flavorful and just the thing to satiate your southern food craving. The grits are not lacking any butter either. Guess what? You can get your diner fix at any time because they are open 24 hours. Win!

The entertainment is the chef/waiter combo, who are totally out of synch. Took 1hr to get two burgers, people were walking out,but it was never dull. Food was great.

Do you know what I want with my grilled cheese sammy? I want dancing. Lots of dancing. AND disco music. God bless the Clover Grill! Stopped in for a quick bite after a couple afternoon cocktails at Lafitte's. My two gal pals and I squeezed into the only three available bar stools (right in between creepy young dude and creepy old dude - yikes). It was a few minutes before we were acknowledged, but our sassy waiter took our order promptly and brought out a round of much needed waters. The food was tasty, and it hit the spot. My grilled cheese was cooked perfectly and the fries my girlfriends ordered were heavily salted and crisp. I saw them come out of a SYSCO bag, but I do not care. Same with all the burgers we watched them cook - frozen patties right out of a SYSCO box. Who cares? You don't really come here for the freshest of food anyway. You come for a quick bite to soak up the liquor - and you come for the dancing! The short order cook in front of us danced and sang the whole time we were there. Cook #2 was very Lafayette style (for those of you who watch True Blood) and he danced and sang as well. Dinner AND a show folks. Service was a bit slow, but I will definitely be back. I'd really like to check this place out around 3am. I bet there's even more dancing then! Oh - and another favorite thing about this place. The hot dog on the menu is listed as " a quarter pound of all beef pleasure". Below that it says "select members of the staff available for private parties". Even the menu is sassy...

My original review was 4 star but I recently had a bad experience. Actually, most of my experiences at this place have been good but this one left a bad taste in my mouth, mainly as it revolved around service, something they are known for. The single waiter was busy and I tried to take that into account. However, during my entire meal he only said 3 words to me: "for you sir?" to take my order. I realize he wanted to go home and was dealing with a large table, which he was happy to return to often, joke with, and even yell over me and other guests to banter with. I just ordered a burger and gave him a $1 tip - I really wanted to leave zero, but I honestly felt like maybe he did not realize that he was ignoring me and others to such a degree. I tried to explain why to him in an easy going manner and he instantly got defensive saying, "I'm sorry that I wasn't more entertaining!" I do not need to be entertained but I do expect some common courtesy, something he did not want to provide. The fact that he jumped over me when I tried to talk to him really - well - it p***ed me off. I felt like leaving no tip but left the buck. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and it bit me in the ass. I will check them out again and hopefully this was just a bad moment for this guy.

What can you say to possibly top the fact that they will cook your burger (to perfection) under a hub cap??? This place was so divey, so quirky, so pink it was a real treat to dine there. The staff not only was friendly but funny (James you rock dude!) In contrast to the "fancy" places, this was a wonderful place to hide out during a downpour. We loved everything about it.. I need to pace myself better though while in NOLA....Too much food, so little time. Even though there are HUNDREDS of places still on the "list" every trip to NOLA will include a burger and VERY TASTY FRIES from the Clover Grill.

Stopped by after picking up my friend from the airport at 1:00 am. Had never been before, but thanks to yelpers found it and it was just as everyone said. Its a small hole in the wall with six tables and 10 counter seats. Its on the North side of Bourbon street which if you are offended by gay people, you might want to go home and make a sandwich. It took about 10 minutes to get a table but once we did the service was good. I don't think that the servers are catty, but unless you gay they assume your drunk and going to act like an idiot. We had the "hub cap cheeseburger (****1/2 stars) Its a nice greasy slab of meat which I built up with chili (**** stars) jalapeños, and a over medium egg. You get a choice of fries or tatter tots (*** stars) go for the tatters!!! The Dr. Pepper tasted like rootbeer and you only get half of a glass refill. I don't know whats up with that. They have a juke box behind the counter where you can select songs and with big windows along the side its a great place to people watch. Parking was not bad on the a block up from the diner but we got there at 2:30 am...

After a long day and night out in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, we were ready to get some greasy late-night food so we headed here after seeing the line out the door. The burger was really great. The meat was surprisingly high quality and very favorful. Our waiter suggested putting bleu cheese along with mushrooms and jalapenos on it, and what I thought was going to be a weird mix of flavors actually tasted really good. The fries were pretty good too, making it a solid late-night meal. The chicken fried steak and eggs meal was mediocre at best, with the chicken fried steak not tasting very good at all. The atmosphere was a generic diner feel packed with tons of party-goers, especially considering it is right on Bourbon. The burger was pretty cheap considering the quality of the meat, and I'd definitely say this is a good place to get some late-night food on Bourbon Street.

I have three words for you...then a few more: BEST OMELETTES EVER! They're so light and fluffy and buttery and delicious. The staff here is great, although one of the servers hit on my boyfriend when he returned to pick up some take out, but I can't really hold that against him because my boyfriend is rather handsome. =) I miss this place. Wish I lived closer.

Great atmosphere! Mediocre food. I loved the service (a bitchy queen in a greasy apron who referred to the regulars as "Bitch!") but thought my 1/2 lb burger (cooked under a hubcab! [Why? Who cares?!]) was a little runny. In fact, I wished there were more burger options for smaller appetites. But the jukebox selection (Abba! Britney!) helped distract from the overpriced (for the execution, not the portion) and limited burger options. That said, I would eat here again for breakfast... or I'd even give another late night burger a try. (Oh, and don't forget to grab a complimentary condom on your way out. Safety first!)

Dirty as ever but the best hamburger in town. We've also had the BLT's and grilled cheese sandwiches here and I love 'em. It's so nice to know no matter what time of day or night you can always count on the door being open.

Had the cheese burger and fries - good. Funny and helpful waiter - even better. You can bring in your alcohol from the outside - the best.

A good buzz and serious munchies are the only reason to eat here. It's the only restaurant we could find open at 1:00am. That explains the line outside...not the food inside. The window outside boasts the Best Burgers. Only if you consider the frozen hockey pucks that the cook throws on the grill along with a generous squirt of mystery grease that he continuously squirts all over the food and grill, than it is.. The shredded potatoes are also frozen and shaken on the grill out of a cardboard box and covered with another generous squirt. We sat at the counter and it was pure late night theater. The place was packed and one guy was serving, manning the register, taking orders and throwing people out who he suspected cut the line. Stick with the eggs...they won't hurt you.

bourbon and dumaine. you just have to remember that when you're drunk and hungry and all the places you WANTED to eat at are full or closed. hot dogs, burgers, eggs. 24 hours. oh yeah - and tater tots. don't forget the tater tots.

  • Sophia L.

Loved the food, but it was kind of small. I actually liked everyone else's food more than mine, maybe because they all got breakfast and I ordered a chicken salad sandwich, which was too sweet. Almost tasted like it was made with miracle whip! =( & you can totally tell we were in the part of the French Quarter where my fiance didn't feel too comfy...Our waiter was flamboyant, and eagerly ready to tell off his cook. L0L He even called out someone on the phone who kept calling, the B word. Hilarious, although if there were kids in there it wouldn't have been ok. My 10 month old was with me, but he of course didn't even know what was going on. I'd order breakfast to go next time I'm out there.

Awesome hole in the wall with great burgers! Too bad they didn't have milkshakes at the time. The waiter was adorable, and the cook was amazing to watch! The system they have is like a well oiled machine. It was like watching a cooking show! The food took a while to make, but we passed the time watching food being made. When we got it, we were ravenous, and it was oh so good! Tender meat, perfect blend of flavors, and really great fries and tater tots. Definitely would be my local hang out if I lived in New Orleans! Final note: the bathroom is quite unique... one of the smallest I've seen!

I'd like to tell you something good about this place, so let me tell you it's in the lovely French Quarter. I'd like to tell you something about the food. We never got any. I'd like to tell you about the service. Despite sitting at the counter, right next to the cash register, we were told they'd be right with us... then ignored for 20 minutes before we walked out. Good luck.

3 a.m. where else are you going to find decent food? This place was much better than expected. It's a small burger/food joint and they served the greasiest, softest, most delicious tots ever. their burgers were decent. 3.5/5 but i'll round it up since the service was pleasant.

The definition of greasy spoon.. It's wonderful that places like this survive in the Quarter. Great for 3:00 AM breakfast after a night on the town. Lots of hipsters wearing ironic visors.

I had lunch at Clover Grill today, and I must say, it was an enjoyable experience. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries, and with tip it ran me $15, which is a bit high, but about normal for the French Quarter. The folks working in there were super nice. The food was really tasty, and there was plenty of it. The fries were skinny (which I love), and they cook the burgers under a hubcap. I was surprised by how "local" it felt being right on Bourbon, but the atmosphere was spot on. In short, really good burger, fun joint, and make sure you read the fine print on the menu- it's hilarious. The only negative I have is that it was sort of loud.

My friends and I stumbled upon the Clover Grill while walking on Bourbon from the Blacksmith bar a few blocks away. We decided to head here the following day for lunch. The burgers and fries were great. The meal was much needed after a late night with many drinks. The food hit the spot! Some of my friends went back there 2/3 times during the trip 3 day trip. The place can be a bit dirty (floors, counters, table tops) and can take a while to be seated. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to get seated. There aren't many tables to sit at or space at the counter. The check took awhile to get to us after we finished eating. Don't expect great service, but you'll come away with a pretty good burger and that's what we were looking for!

For breakfast on Saturday we decided to try the Clover Grill - I was actually surprised with how small the place was on the inside! The breakfast was your typical greasy diner food - served fast and was pretty tasty. My biggest issue was our service....the waiter seemed only half there - we asked for hash browns twice and never got them, and he wasn't exactly very sociable either. The place is open 24 hours, so if you are looking for a cheap bite to eat while you are out drinking or recovering from a night of drinking, I'd recommend this place and it's convenient location and diner food.

    (3)
  • Christopher W.

The best burger that I have ever had, and great fries. Perfect for lunch or a late-nite dinner. However, don't go expecting quick service. It takes at least 10 minutes before they even acknowledge you exist, and another 30-50 to get your food. Rest assured, though, your wait will definetely be worth it.

  • Kristin K.

Fantastic food, in my opinion, whether you've been drinking or not. It's teeny tiny but it's fun and you can people watch out the windows if you'd like. Unfortunately, when I went they ran out of ice cream or something to make the shakes so I was disappointed. I was still happy and some guy put some fun songs on the juke box which is always a treat. The waiter didn't even mind that I brought in my half-drank hand grenade.

  • Amanda W.

Oh Clover Grill, how I love you. You big, greasy, gay, delicious hunk of awesome. Their cheeseburger saved my life, seriously. And I wasn't even drunk! No but really, I like to believe I am a diner food connoisseur and I am telling you this place will become your favorite. They have all the standard American fare, served up with sass and probably blasting disco music. Yeah, it looks kind of sketchy, but that could be said of all of New Orleans. Deal with it, the sketchiness is part of the charm. We like it dirty. Trust me, you will, too.

Best late-night, greasy spoon diner. It's small, so don't be shy. You may find someone dancing in your lap just to pick up a dropped napkin. It's not pristine, either. It just rocks, so go with the flow. The food is just the trick when you've had one too many hurricanes and need hash browns, stat! And watching the guys in the kitchen is like watching an Olympic grill competition. They know their way around like clockwork. You may have to wait a while, so sit tight and enjoy the amusement. Definitely a place to people watch. ;)

  • Kevin K.

One of the worst places in the French Quarter. I have given them my late night business a couple of times now and the experience continues to become a sour end to the night. The biggest drawback is not the greasy, overpriced food but the rudest staff in Nola. I hit my final straw last night when waiting to be served for about fifteen minutes. We were talking among friends and another table... End to a good night? Well, the first time the waiter came to our table was not to take our order but to tell us that we either needed to shut up or get out. I guess clover grill does not have to be a part of the service industry when you can take advantage of hungry drunk people.

Had this been a review for my previous visits (4+ yrs ago), it would have been 5 stars off the charts. However, the staff working this Labor Day Weekend had lots of attitude, and not in a funny sassy way (more in the we don't give a crap that you're here, enjoy your food, or come back attitude kinda way). Once we sat down at the bar, on a very quiet Monday lunch at 11am, we watched the cashier/waiter roll silverware and chat with the chef for 15 minutes before even acknowledging us. The burger had to be sent back b/c the fried egg came out raw (as in translucent clear runny.....not even close to being over easy).....while the waiter looked at the runny burger in disgust, the chef gave attitude that he had to be bothered to cook another burger, no mention of an apology. If you remember the days of Big Earl working this joint, you may be disappointed if you're expecting the same atmosphere, service and quality of food. There's plenty of places to eat in the Quarter, I prefer to spend my $$ where I don't feel like I'm a nuisance to the staff who act like they would rather be doing anything else but making you feel welcome.

Quirky grill in gay area of Bourbon, perfect for a bite before the ghost tours or after you night of partying. My friends and I are straight but we still enjoyed our selves, our waiter was hilarious and couldn't stop complimenting us and our man hood. Not a place for the kids, but after my first trip to New Orleans, I will be back. Must Go!

I loved a quote from one of the Yelp reviewers, "an oasis in a sea of drunkenness that is Bourbon St". It is so true. It is greasy spoon heaven, and I enjoyed every minute of being there. The staff is so friendly, sitting at the counter, you feel like you're in your mother's kitchen. I love how everything is cooked to order in front of you, and everything I had was good. I was fascinated at how they were cooking the burgers, keeping them juicy. I'm going to try that "cover and spray" trick at home!

  • A A.

Yep, came to Clover because of all the good reviews, and because I didn't really know of any other places to get some grub at five am. Well.. the place was full of course because it's a closet, and you do get to watch them prepare the food right in front of you, making it a blessing that you've been drinking because not a hand ever gets washed, or gloved. I took a club sandwich and tots back to the hotel, and my friend took home the breakfast. None of it was good... except the tots. Literally, we were piss drunk, starving, and all we could do was nibble on semi warm, bland food... except the tots. I didn't want to share mine! But there was nothing else to eat, so we scarfed those bad boys down and looked around for more! So.. if ever you find yourself on Bourbon street, and you're starving. Skip this place. But if you just have to go in, skip everything else and load up on tater tots.

Total failure for me! I honestly didn't expect much from this place as it is mostly post drinking comfort food slathered in some kind of animal lard. I had to order something off the menu, and as much I enjoyed the four veggies in between my sickly buttered toast (Sarcasm) and the waiter forgetting (twice) my order for hash browns, i'd say it's rather unimpressive! So, you need to enjoy this place a lil inebriated as the blinding reality of sober daylight of the clover grill is pretty scary!

Want a a good ol' southern-style breakfast, just like Grandma used to make? This is THE place! Best of the best when it comes to a good ol' fashion greasy spoon. Don't miss it!

  • Fräulein J.

So, yes. My girlfriends and I were led here by a local when searching for late night eats. We sat at the counter, and as the other reviews have said - the staff provided less than typical good service. If you have a strong stomach for shaggy haired, hungover looking cooks who don't wash their hands and wear dirty aprons - then you'll be ok. The place is...well, a DIRTY, greasy spoon. I had a burger and fries which was pretty low-brow. Frozen patty thrown on a hot gril. My girlfriends had grilled cheese and tator tots. Their sandwiches were a bit scary - and soggy because after placing the sandwich under the grill lid, they squirt water all around (assumingly to melt the cheese) but the steam makes the bread a bit moist. We had to laugh at the snotty waiter-service and the state of the place. It made for a good story later, thats for sure.

Dirty, catty, and gay. If you're from west beattlebutt Idaho and there aren't any gay diners, then yeah, I could see why you'd want to make a pit stop to see the flair and the hubcaps. But honestly the scattered, glowing reviews towards food have been fueled by alcohol inhibited taste buds. The food here is less than mediocre if you're sober. As a few people below accurately state: the food is frozen and out of a box. It's better than IHOP or some other similarly uninspired chain, and you could do worse at 3 AM, but don't fool yourself into thinking it will be an amazing culinary experience.

    (2)
  • Walerz B.

The food's not the best, but it's CHEAP and somewhat tasty and perfect for that late night urge to sop up all the alcohol in your tummy; it's also open 24 hours and serves breakfast all day. Their malt milkshakes are delish and the service is great.

Went to Clover Grill around 11am before catching a flight back home. Wasn't busy, we were able to get a table out of the (about) 5 they had. This place is a little greasy spoon joint. When I say little... the place is small! It could use a little updating. But the staff was friendly and food was good. Got a Bacon Cheese Burger and Fries.

    (4)
  • Lynn L.

My friend recommended this and I was absolutely thrilled with it! I'm glad I tried it. The tots were cooked just right. I wanted more! The cheeseburger was also cooked the way I ordered it. Can't wait to return to New Orleans just so I can get more tots!!

  • Roni R.

Let's call a spade a spade ... and be honest here. If anyone is come to this place -- come here after a night of debauchery and drunkenness b/c your taste buds will already have been sedated enough to enjoy the enormous amount of grease that is about to enter your loins. Because if you come here sober -- you will notice the mediocre service, the substandard quality in the meal you're about to consume and the horribly awful funk stemming from Bourbon's debaucherous night. So be forewarned ... be drunk, very very drunk b/c when I was drunk -- food was amazing, hit the spot, just the perfect amount of grease to jolt me back to life. While I was sober, however, I had a hard time keeping the food down and the horrible service left me never wanting to return.

  • Tobi D.

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because there is a better burger in New Orleans... well at least in my opinion (and as you can see, I'm not a native, but Port of Call is better to me). Anyway, the Clover Grill was a life saver to me after a night of drinking. I loved that my waiter had MAJOR attitude in his full on 1950's dinner outfit. The burger, fries and milkshake were just what I needed. It was very delicious. This is one of my husband's favorite places in New Orleans and he was very excited to share this discovery with me. When he was alone he sat at the bar... once he was hit on and once he was invited to a rave. I think from now on, I will be sure to go with him. I am glad that I came and read the other reviews because it never occurred to me to go there for breakfast.

  • David S.

This is a bit of a grimy diner: no frills, nothing fancy. But the food is cheap and tasty: my grilled chicken breast sandwich was delicious, as was my side of fries. Kudos also for staying open 24 hrs, and it's in nice proximity to a bunch of gay bars. I'd definitely go back.

Someone said this is a must-see on bourbon street...I don't think so. Too crowded, nothing special on the menu, we ended up leaving to find something more worth spending a bit of our NOLA vacation on!!!

The Clover Grill is a must in the French Quarter if you need a break from Cajun cuisine and you're nursing a mighty hangover. They have a simple menu of burgers and fries, but it's just what the doctor ordered... Very cheap and incredibly tasty. The employees are characters, you may not get served quickly, but it's definitely worth the wait. And if you've seen Benjamin Button, they have a scene in the restaurant...

3 stars is considering what's open between 2 and 8 am. The grill renders great interpretations of classic diner food, from chiecken fried steak to scrambled eggs. Service is fast, food is quite good, and prices are reasonable. And it's less than two blocks from Bourbon Street Pub and the end of the Bourbon St bar strip.

  • John D.

The food? Just ok. I mean, c'mon, it is diner fare. It serves it's purpose, filling you up, absorbing some alcohol, and is unremarkable. But the clientele and the employees, now that is entirely different. You never know what you are going to see when you go here. Anything from goths, to drag queens, to tattooed freaks, and everything in between. It is never boring inside, and that is what keeps bringing me back.

    (3)
  • Allan H.

In times past, The Clover was never about the quality of the food necessarily but rather its timeliness....its always there when you need it, its always cheap, there is plenty of it and it's great when you are stumbling home from too much fun in the Quarter. I am happy to say that the food and timeliness are still exactly the same. What has changed; however, is the certain "joie de vie" the staff had. They seem nowhere near as happy and sassy as they used to be - almost like being there is a sentence instead of the light hearted fun it once was. So, while you can still get a Clover Weiner and Tater Tots at 3:30 AM or PM, it just feels a it less fun and a bit more cranky. Food 2 Decor 2 Service 2 Other where else are you going to get a big helping of grease at 4AM after that 16th Hurricane 5

  • Dan B.

This is the perfect place to go to suck up your alcohol after boozing in either the Quarter or the Marigny. You can tell the place is venerable, so it is also small, but they have huge and juicy cheeseburgers that can really hit the spot. This place really feels like a Waffle House but stripped of it's chain accouterments and replaced with an authentic New Orleans dive experience. It's a diner. It's greasy. It's delicious. It's what's for dinner.

Probably best for breakfast, which wasn't when we went. My butter came with a side of grits, so you might want to bring the defibrilator to make sure you can walk back down The Quarter afterwards. The place has a lot of character. The food was okay-- a typical greasy spoon.

We went here late at night because the Camellia Grill closed early. I wish I'd just gone on to bed! The cook seemed to fix the orders randomly, not in the order he received them, so we waited almost 45 minutes even though only one other table of two ordered before us, and they were finished eating and paying for their food by the time we got ours! All that would've been alright if the food was as great as everyone said it was, but it was just mediocre diner food that was served lukewarm. NOT worth the wait, or the price. I'd rather have beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe Du Monde late at night; far cheaper and tastier.

Pink, and Faaabulous! Clover Grill was a hit-and-miss situation, with 3 visits to this lil establishment during my time in NOLA. Halloween, we came in, ponied up up to the bar, and were served the best damn 'clover weenies' I've ever had. I love me some weenies. Plus the food comes with your choice of 'tots or fries. Mmmm. Tots. Plus its cheap. Definately much cheaper than that $8 beer you just bought at the bar a block up. Clover Grill's menu is very basic, ranging from burgers to hot dogs, tots, fries, shakes, and omelets...all between $4-$7. Word from the locals is that all the fare is taaasteeey. It's open 24 hours, and being located right on Bourbon makes it the ideal post-drinking-prevent-hangover hangout. Few days later - we sat at the bar...and were not served...at all...not acknowledged...in-vis-ible. With a capital I. We said hi - we got an eye roll, and a "harrumph" noise back at us...WTF Clover?! I must have been wearing my super-hetero clothes that day or something. Bah. We left, sadly, without weenie. Day 3, wanted to give my pink friends another chance, and lo-and-behold we were not disappointed! My friend got a delicious burger, and I went back to my weenie ways...mmm. I would have liked to give it 5 stars, what with all the awesome 80s music, safe sex paraphenalia, and queer-friendly regalia..not to mention awesome food, and good prices...but the total snobbery on visit 2 really kinda killed it. Three stars for you, Clover. Maybe they would have liked me had I played more Erasure on the jukebox....

Excellent place for breakfast - no frills but perfect. They are open 24 hours, so go whenever you fancy a big plate of greasy, delicious food. The bacon rocks!

Love this little joint. Anytime I can have a cheeseburger that was cooked under a 1971 Ford LTD Hubcap count me in! This is the friendliest place on Bourbon street to get some late night eats, or anytime as a matter of fact, cause it's never closed. Shoestring fries are perfect to soak up those handgrenades from down the block.

We stopped by for a late breakfast/early lunch and it was our last meal in New Orleans before we headed for the airport. This greasy spoon is a little rough around the edges...kind of like eating in a working museum...but the food was great! I had a burger and fries...basic but really good. Others around the table had chicken fried steak...one in a sandwich and one as a breakfast with potatos. Our server was friendly and a bit of a space cadet...adding to the character of the place. Tables seat four and no more...they were unable to accommodate our group of five on a previous visit. I love a good burger...and Clover Grill delivered!

I heart the C-Lover Grille. Nothing beats a cheeseburger with a side of grits. In fact, I often find myself comparing cheeseburgers I eat to the ones I've had here as a golden standard of sorts. The food here kills a dumb tourist's hangover like nothing else. As a dumb tourist who drank one of those godawful street-vendor 'hand grenades' myself, I can certainly attest to that. I have always left this place well fed and happy.

Was taken there this past December by a friend who's eaten there many times and raved about it. I don't think you can claim to be the best burgers in town when you serve frozen burgers. The buns were stale and the cook managed to screw up most of the toppings on the five burgers we ordered. Not what they used to be, me thinks. The tater tots were yummy though.

You have to love the Clover Grill. It's the law. After way too many drinks, or if you're nursing a hangover the next day, this is where you want to be. Wait patiently for your burger, cooked under the hubcap, get in some prime people-watching, then dive into something that will cure what ails ya!

come on now, anything less than five stars is kind of unfair. this place is fantastic. it's just the right food, at just the right price, with just the right hours, in just the right place. greasy spoon breakfast goodness... omelets and grits do a body good. and for $5? unbelievable. i heart you, clover grill. clover saves my lash eggs and grits and toast, oh my! love you like puppies.

Expect a packed house especially if you're coming here after 2am. Hell, expect a packed house if you get here after 10am on a Sunday too! This is the quintessential greasy spoon. Cute, small and quaint. Listen to Gloria Gaynor survive the night life as you wolf down a hamburger or club sandwich in your drunken state. Smile big as the waiter grumbles at you. You can't beat this place with a stick.

This is an amazing little diner with some great home cooking breakfast food. The music was super fun and the super fun lady that cooked the food was dancing and singing the entire time. She was a show you can't miss! The coffee was hot and the server kept our drinks filled the whole time. Our breakfast for two was $22. Thought it was a very reasonable price. This is a great place to go for a fun/affordable diner style breakfast!!!!

That's one delicious omelette. But lordy is it buttery. Went here for breakfast on Tuesday morning after memorial day and thus the scene was rather sedate, just a couple other tables, our sweet server and a sassy fry cook. The eggs are whizzed up in the milkshake machine and are very fluffy, "just eggs and air"as the cook said. And butter. I had a blue cheese and tomato omelette-the tomatoes were sauteed and slightly charred and added lightness to one of the richest omelets I've ever had. And there was a pool of butter on the grits. I'm not complaining really, mind you, it was delicious, but I was still quite sated come dinner. Sorry, Jacques-Imo.

There are a lot of greasy spoons one can go to. This is one of the better ones. The service is less than optimal, and I've never seen anyone get their order taken very quickly. However the food is better described as comfort food. If you've been out drinking all night this place works as well. Late at night there tends to be a long line. The only problem about this place is that it is that you're paying for the location. Additionally you'll pay for ever addition to the meal. There is a separate charge for cheese on the sandwich, and a separate charge for the side.

When it comes to diners... this is an okay place to go when your drunk and hungry. It's on Bourbon St., and during college, I did spend quite a bit of time there on the weekends. So, this place is definitely convenient. Their food is okay... but a bit on the greasy side. One of their gimmicks that they're more well known for is that their burgers are cooked under real hub caps. Honestly, it does make their burgers more tender, so that's a plus, but unless you're sober, it's not anything truly special. What's really amazing is their omelette. If you're gonna eat here, get one of those anytime, night or day. Those thick fluffy light yellow clouds are truly worth the fat. It's the best thing on the menu, and way better than even many of the supposed fine dining restaurants in the area.

Greasy burgers cooked under a hubcap, awesome fries, thick milkshakes, all served by some of New Orleans most entertaining cooks and waiters. Typical diner fare, but you don't come here for the quality of the food, its the experience. Although the milkshakes are so thick that we got take out once and it as still too thick to suck up the straw even after walking abck to our hotel on St. Ann in 90 degree august heat....

Late night burgers with entertainment. The food is really quite good, as you get served up in any greasy spoon. I really like that you can grab a late night burger and fries after a day of debauchery. There is limited seating inside, so if you are staying in the Quarter, grab your meal and head back to the hotel, or head over to Jackson square just a few blocks away.

i love them!! every time i walk in the door, the smell of waffles wins me over, and i must order them. friends and family have loved burgers and sammies, too, as well as the adorable staff! i always leave with a smile. :) (oh, and love those diner prices!)

Delicious biscuits and gravy for 10am breakfast. The staff seemed a little slow and disgruntled that time, but that didn't impact the quality of the food or the ambiance. The second time I went it was 1am and everyone was perky.

So it's 8 o'clock in the morning, I get a phone call from a friend who needs to be picked up from Tulane hospital because another friend was mugged and pistol whipped a few hours earlier.... He is starving... so where do you take someone who's shirt is bloody and with bruises and stitches all over their face for a cheery breakfast? Well, you take them to the Clover Grill! What could be better than eating eggs and grits with some chicken fried steak when you have a broken cheek bone? Especially when Gladys Knight is playing in the background and a drag queen is sucking down a waffle! The server was super cute and friendly and my food was great... not amazing but great. I felt like I was in a Quentin Tarantino movie! Try Clover Wiener, it's "a 1/4 pound of pure beef pleasure"...

  • Killian E.

First off, the John Waters descriptions are very apt. The staff brings out the best in this place and make for a very charming, if not entertaining experience. Most importantly, this is the only late night spot (all night) open in the French Quarter. The cook, flirtatiously pointed a huge butcher knife at several patrons. Not once did i fear for their safety, or mine. Then the cook suggestively sliced a hot dog in front of a customer. Not once did i fear for their weiner or mine. Greasy food you could get anywhere in America, but a quintessential New Orleans experience that tourists spend thousands of dollars seeking. It's even In the touristy French Quarter!

How can two stops at the Clover Grill both within 34 hours of each other and both ordering the exact same thing (2 eggs over-easy with buttered toast and hash browns/tater tots) be such polar opposite experiences? Visit #1: Friday, 2:30 a.m., (after 2 giant hurricanes, 1 overpriced Michelob ultra, and an orange mixed drink concoction poured into mouth) - 5 big stars! Visit #2: Saturday, noon, (completely sober) - 1 pesky little star! Lesson learned: only come back when extremely inebriated.

open 24 hours and provides food. 24 hour food. if you've been drinking all night in the french quarter, and you want food. this is the place. the servings are generous. the servers are friendly. and the food is hearty. also, great for breakfast if you have to leave early early early in the morning.

I love the Clover Grill! I usually go there for lunch during the week. I usually order a cheeseburger and french fries and they're always great. The staff puts a smile on my face and makes me want to dance along with them! The City Hall clock on the wall is priceless.

  • Sione P.

Ah, the Clover Grill... There's nothing quite like "greasy spoon" fare sometimes and having it as an option 24 hours a day is even better! The Clover has great burgers and I love tater tots! The burgers are 1/2 pound slabs and sure enough, cooked under a hub-cap! The omelettes are really REALLY fluffy after being whipped up in a shake machine for a LONG time. I keep meaning to try this myself! The food is greasy delicious diner food, just like you'd expect, if not much better for 24-hour food! The menu has funny lines that make it even more worth reading, haha.

I found this place after walking around the French Quarter on foot all day. I was fortunate to arrive at an off hour, maybe 3 or 4 in the afternoon, and watched, spellbound, as the cook placed the hubcap over the burger. It is a vintage James Dean Roadside Route 66 place with yes, I admit a bit of self-conscious theatricality, but this is what I was paying for in the first place being in the Quarter. What am I supposed to do, go to the Denny's by the Airport? No, no senor! Ok, my burger was old time grease, the way Classic Coke used to taste, when Holiday Inns were new and the Interstate Highway System was rolling out! The staff worked in the swelterig heat of July and kept up that beautiful economy of motion that food workers do in the tropical heat. OK, fast forward to my December visit the same year, I hit the Clover for breakfast on a Saturday at about 9am. Line of customers out the door. One waiter! One waiter took phone orders, bussed tables, delivered menus and water and food! One cook or two. The waiter flashed through my table and I gave him our order and the food came and it was yes, indeed rich and a cholesterol blast. That's the point. I live in Northern California among joggers and the miserable bicycle people who want us to suffer with them. No, no, senor! It didn't have to be this way. I am the 2nd Most Interesting Man in the World, my opinions on the Copa Mundial are followed and quoted, sin verguenza, by thousands. I write, therefore I am. The Clover...I tell you...Glancing meaningfully at the camera...Is a place. I do not know who will win the Cup, but I know that on July 11, 2010, New Orleans, IS THE PLACE 2 B!

Went for breakfast and got a show. A teeny-tiny, itty-bitty gem on the less raucous end of Bourbon Street, this is a great place for breakfast. My hubby had the traditional breakfast and I had a BLT and hashbrowns and it was a highly satisfying comfort food breakfast. Cheap, well cooked, tasty, and a fun, quirky staff of what appeared to be 2 or 3. Neat!

This place was a terrible experience my mom and I got up and left. The server was rude and disrespectful. I have never wanted to be mean before to a server but this time I wanted to practice my cuse words to the server. I will never recommend this place or go there again.

I could of licked the plate and the waiters! They are adorable! I had a blue cheese burger and it was so greasy good!! This is a great meal for a hang over, while your drinking or just when you are in the mood for a good burger. Great service and great ambiance! They played good music and some of the patrons got up and danced in the aisles--it is encouraged on the menu! Lots of fun!

A damn fine burger and all the greasy ass fixins at the Clover. But even better was the sassy counter server and short order cook. You may well see just about anyone at the Clover, from transvestites to Texans. It's just outside the ridiculous crowds of Rue Bourbon and open all hours, so if you've had just a little too much, this is the place to get one's head back in order.

Best.omelettes.ever. Fluffy and huge, and the only thing that cured a good French Quarter hangover for me. I've practically crawled here many a time. Check out the little quips on the menus for a chuckle. I heard Earl wasn't there anymore - hopefully I'm mistaken because he was the best!

Went here around 4am one morning after some good drinking. It is real small and was packed so the "cook" told us to wait outside, rather rudely. But whatever, that's fine. After lingering outside the door for 15 minutes we came in ordered standard diner fare. But damn, it took at least 20 minutes to order and another 20 to get the food which was OK at best.

above average diner food. the omelet I consumed was good, but it wasn't worth calling home about. the hours (24), portions (huge) and the prices (cheap) definitely hit the spot. as for the atmosphere: old school madonna was playing on the jukebox and the television was set to project runway. :)

Went to the Clover tonight for a quick bite. The place wasn't busy around 10 pm, so we had our choice of empty seats at the counter. There was only one server, so we waited patiently for him to deliver some food, do drinks, ring up a takeout order, input a new order, ring up a bill, etc, etc. Finally after sitting at a dirty counter for 10 minutes without menus or so much as an acknowledgement of our presence, we got up and left. Don't get me wrong, we've been there many times - even took father on law once and recommend the place to friends coming to town, but crappy service is crappy service. I'm a patient, low-maintenance diner, but my opinion of the place is spoiled.

The best of the 'gay' cuisine. Better than average diner grub and, if Miss Earl is working, the best floor show in town.

Clover is the sister (heh) of another French Quarter diner that's not overtly homosexual, and slightly more amusing. If you play the right songs on the juke you might get a floor show. Get a chocolate shake with banana and egg. Good for leveling off the alcohol in your stomach. Great burgers cooked under old hubcaps.

Just had breakfast here. 8:30 on a Friday morning. I must admit I went with some trepidation. I had read other reviews about the attitude of the staff, and I was NOT in the mood. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The guys working there were all incredibly nice. We had a discussion about Dionysius and Bacchus. Another customer came in, worried about whether she was parked illegally. One of the guys went out with her to see where she was parked, then told her to have a seat, she was fine. The food was served quickly. I ordered eggs and toast. It was good; kind of hard to mess that up if you have any cooking experience. Other reviews talked about how crowded it gets. When I went in there was only one other person. Just before I left two more came in with to-go orders, and two more sat. So, good service, good food, though nothing special. Nice change of pace from beignets. I'd go back.

Don't waste your money. The staff was absolutely creepy. I mean bad vibes all over. We asked one of the bus girls how she was and her response was something we would expect from "crazy eyes" on Orange is the New Black. She spoke like her in saying, "I don't know........." As she walked away expressionless. The server was off too. The menu was that of a basic diner, HOWEVER, being from NJ I know diners, ok. So we got our food and it laid in a puddle of oil and butter. This not only Made me cringe but literally threw off my body the entire day. I had to go back to my hotel and sleep some of this off because my stomach was so upset. So I spent a whole day sick over the scrambled eggs and biscuits I got. Only positive is I saved money by not eating until a 9pm dinner because I lost my appetite. So go here if you're looking to lose weight by getting sick and not eating all day. But if you'd like to stay healthy stay away!!

This diner is great because it's a 24 hour spot on Bourbon! It doesn't have the diner charm as people have mentioned but it's great for something quick and cheap (especially if you've been drinking). They're pretty quick and the food is good. Word of advice, especially if you're sitting at the counter... don't watch them make your food! They don't use gloves and they don't wash their hands. Gross right? Well when you're hungry, drunk and on vacation I don't think most people will mind. I'm from New York so I know for a fact that place would not be in business if it ran like that. But if you're hungry and nothing is open, don't look and all is well. Pretend as if you never saw this review, ignorance is bliss right? :)

This has been a must stop by for most of my adult life, from living here to now visiting from where I live now. The hallmark great diner food combined with the campy wait staff and hilarious banter made this a place I would never miss while in town, and always brought friends. Unfortunately, the food is so-so, the staff listless and far more interested in talking to each other than paying attention to patrons. I had to walk up to the waiter (with less than four people in the diner) to ask to order. Sad, dirty, lousy service, bleh food; don't waste your time and meal, not when there's dozens of great places nearby! Tom Woods- what happened?

Want to experience a place where they have attitude!?! Come on in and enjoy the fun... Recommended for adults only. They are open 24/7 and I think we must be at the end of a shift. Don't be in a hurry guys so that you can enjoy the banter while you wait for omelettes if you're a vegetarian. I happen to be with my favorite vegetarian...fortunately we have time to spare. Who cares with the food is like, we haven't been served yet, but it's fun place to be. The locals are the best part. Anyone can make an omelette.

So there you are, drunk in Bourbon St. (again) and your stomach starts demanding something other than hand grenades. You glance down at your phone to see that it's 4 AM, where on earth is still selling food at 4 AM. A little place called The Clover Grill. The long and short of it: 1. Hours. 24/7! Extremely clutch given its right down in the Quarter. There aren't many other options once it gets late night. 2. Food. It's your run of the mill greasy spoon diner food. Good but nothing special. I enjoy their omelettes. 3. Wait. It's the only ace around open late night so after 3 you'll find just about every hungry drunk Bourbon St. dweller here. It's not that large a place so you'll likely have to wait. While the food might not be stellar, The Clover Grill makes up for it with their location and operating hours. But I fully expect no one to read this review because anyone looking for this place is drunk. Hi drunk people! Overall Grade: C (Bumped up to a B after 3 AM)

The Clover Grill is a must visit place in New Orleans. I just hate it that we didn't go until our last morning there. It's a small place on Bourbon Street so there may be a wait but it's worth it. It's in the middle of the gay bar section of the French Quarter so be aware of that in case it's not something you are comfortable with. The staff is quick witted and it can easily be mistaken for rudeness. I think it's just part of the appeal. I recommend the biscuits and gravy or an omelet. They are outstanding! The hash browns had a great seasoning. We will definitely return next trip to NOLA.

Excellent greasy spoon diner with a very friendly personable staff. They cover breakfast to dinner type diner meals and if you come hungry you'll leave happy. I had an excellent hub cap cheeseburger here and plan on eating a few hundred more in the future. Also definitely worth noting, they're open 24 hours!

Clover Grill is AMAZINGGG. We walked in late night and sat at the counter, and ordered the chicken fried steak that came with 2 fried eggs and fries, we also ordered an order of biscuits which was topped with white sausage gravy. Everything about that place is awesome. The waiter at the counter was really nice and he told us that the restaurant use to be someone's home back in the 1800's and than it was made into the restaurant at a point and stayed that way ever since. If you're on bourbon street you definitely have to go in there to eat.

OMG! Some of, if not, THE best coffee shop food I have ever had. If you diet, if you're watching your cholesterol, if you are in any way health conscious. Don't come here. This food has flavor, I'm talking bacon grease, lard, salt and pepper flavor. This food should not be wasted on finicky eaters who wouldn't know flavor if walked up and bitch slapped them in the face. I recommend the chicken fried steak and eggs as well as the biscuits and gravy. Get chur appetite on!

The Clover Grill is a real hole in the wall, but I mean that in a good way. You don't go there if you want a classy meal. They serve breakfast, hamburgers, club sandwiches and are open 24 hours a day. You might remember a scene in Benjamin Button when they show the window of a diner - that was the Clover Diner. We went there a few years ago when we were last in New Orleans. We had the same server as last time. Now, if you have not been there, understand they have about five tables and a counter. There is a flat-top grill behind the counter and a couple of deep fryers. They also have two waffle irons that appear quite old. You can feel the grease of years of frying and grilling in the air. And, if you walk back to the restrooms, the floors are a little slippery from the grease, so be careful. That all being said, their burgers are great. I had a hamburger with tator tots. The burger is about 1/2 pound, served with lettuce, tomato, mayo and onion. I was a little disappointed in the number of tots they give you - a little light I would say. But, on the other hand, the burger was so large that I probably couldn't have finished the tater tots had there been many more. They are in the French Quarter, so the prices are higher than I would expect in a diner like this elsewhere. But, as far as French Quarter prices, they are still on the low end.

When it's busy, expect to wait at least an hour for your food - it's a tiny joint but they get slammed. There are some characters working and eating here which makes your world go from black and white to color. Lots o' drunk people but mostly quiet or friendly drunks. If you have 1-3 drinks in you after dark, you'll fit right in. For a greasy spoon diner, they serve a mean hamburger (their patties actually taste like meat!). Their fries are not all that impressive, though. They blast their A/C so when you're hot and hungry, this is the perfect place to rebalance your temperature and your stomach.

Not great. Although, I didn't even get my order. They just forgot to cook it and never noticed. I was sitting at the counter, they served all my friends their food and then just ignored the fact that I wasn't eating. My friend's food was so greasy it made her ill. I get that's it is a diner, but there was oil pooled on top and all around the omelet, it was gross.I ended up sharing my friend's biscuits and gravy which were decent, but I've had better. Go to "The Grill" way better food and service.

Our service was REALLY REALLY bad. All the tables were sticky. The 4 of us ordered: 1 cheese burger, 2 shakes (a vanilla and a chocolate), tater tots, a slice of pie, 2 diet cokes, and 4 waters. This is after we flagged down the guy taking orders because we had been there for so long, we assumed it was actually counter service not wait service. The guy took our order, put it into the grill because my sister's cheese burger came out very quickly and it was REALLY good! But we're waiting... and waiting.... and waiting... my sister is dying because no drinks have come out yet and her food is salty. We continue to wait, trying to make eye contact with the server... My mom finally gets up and asks if he forgot about our drinks. He says he hasn't! He proceeds to bring over 2 diet cokes... and we wait some more... My sister is finally able to finish her burger as she was luckily one of the diet cokes (I was the other). We have still not seen water or shakes. Finally when the shakes do come out we've already been done for AGES, so my mom and other sister take them to go. My mom never got her pie, but you can bet they charged for it! They had to redo our bill to take it off. Again, we never got waters or pie. C'est la vie. But you only get 2 stars because the burger was SUPER SUPER good. So 2 stars to the chef, 0 stars to the waiter.

Like many other places in New Orleans, service is the absolute last priority. Guy there is unbelievable an asshole and takes pleasure in being a dick. Wasn't even allowed to order. Food looks horrible, avoid this place if possible.

  • Belinda L.

Breakfast and a show!!!! Be prepared for waiters who would rather not be bothered with your business, and a cook who will make you feel like he wants you to die! No joke. DO NOT ASK FOR ANY SPECIAL FOOD ORDERS, ESPECIALLY CRISPY BACON. Overall the food was a yummy typical greasy spoon with awesome prices. We laughed at the attitude of the staff, and feel like it could be a bit of an act. We will definitely return when in Nola.

This is the best place for night owls to eat under these circumstances: (1) you're in the French Quarter and by chance drunk off your ass, (2) you want food that actually tastes good AND will stay in your body and allow itself to be digested. PSA: If you cannot parallel park, look elsewhere. And to keep the naïve people safe: never approach your car if anyone is lurking. Don't ever be that damn drunk.

Last night in town & got a local tip that this was the place to be...turns out they were right. I did the grilled cheese & tater tots. Sat at the bar & they took my order & had my food up in no time. Staff is friendly & food was great!

My husband and I stopped in after seeing the awesome reviews on yelp. It was packed and smelled so yummy. We were lucky enough to grab a table. We were rudely told by the worker on the register he'd come around in a minute to take our order. 15 minutes later he came to take our drink order and food order. I had to ask for our waters after another 15 minutes passed. The food was nothing short of amazing. It's upsetting to leave such a negative review because of the the worker that made my husband and I feel like a huge inconvenience.

Good hamburgers cooked under a hubcap and I love the tater tots BUT hate their idea of service (or more accurately, lack of service); it bugs the hell out of me so that giving Clover Grill two stars is being very generous. I've worked in a restaurant growing up - washing dishes, waiting on diners, and working the cash register so making a decent burger is not enough to offset lousy wait staff. The problem is that Clover servers in the last few years have ranged from surly to barely-there. It can't be a coincidence that when I visit NOLA once a year, I get bad service no matter what time I go there and it's happened several years in a row so I won't be back because I don't go to New Orleans for drinking and it seems being inebriated is the only way anyone could put up with the crappy service. There seems to be too much drama in the lives of the employees but they should not be bringing their problems into the workplace and taking it out on customers to the point where it feels like they've given up on the notion of customer service.

I can't recall any time in my life, sober or not sober, where I have been so revolted watching food being prepared that I literally had to leave because I feared I would throw up all over the counter. The people cooking food are dirty, their shirts soiled in grease, the floors covered in old food and garbage, a gross grill with everything frozen being thawed out on it, the butter dispenser, dirty waffle pans, the smell... When I saw the grease bin being cleaned from the grill, I threw up a little in my mouth. And I was sober. This was and is the most horrific display of unsanitary food preparation I have ever seen in my life. After 40 minutes I left without eating anything, ran home to my hotel gagging the whole way and took a shower to get the grease smell out of my hair. That's how bad it was.

I came in with my friend. I tried some of this delicious breakfast food and even though I wasn't a person ordering here the waiter gave me a napkin after. This showed quality service and attention to customer detail which is the ultimate key to any successful business. I highly recommend this place!!

  • Shannon L.

Whats not to love. The queens cooking the food. The cute little set up or the delicious food u get!!! They are the only 24/7 dinner in the quarter. And they are usually not that packed in the day time. Its a beast at night though!!! Be prepared to wait.

  • Bruce R.

So I understand early morning tired attitude, but the cashier at 1:30 am should be fired. I simply waited inside at the register for a take-out. After waiting for 10 minutes, he finally looked up and said "do you have a take-out order?" I replied, " a ham and cheese." His response "I asked do you have a take out order?" Once again I said "a ham and cheese." His response: "I will be with you in a few minutes!" I walked out. Nice service at late night!!

Best to get here when it isn't slampacked! Omelettes are good, and usually pretty quick to appear, milkshakes take more time. Sassy staff and great people-watching!

  • Phyllis L.

Never again!!! This was a horrible experience! I went to this placed based on a recommendation from a tour guide. It was mass confusion from start to finish. Being completely ignored for the first 10 minutes at the counter should have been my first sign to get out. I tried to be understanding because a large party was throwing off the rhythm of organization. So I was very patient. Upon receiving our food 40 minutes later, I was disgusted with the bland burger and overlooked onion rings. What sent me over the edge was the bathroom didn't have any soap. To find this out after my meal was gross!!! I will never eat here again.

Typical greasy spoon diner. Small but good atmosphere. The food is a tad expensive for what it is but you are paying for the convenience of stumbling in drunk after a night a partying.

    (3)
  • Matt M.

I agree with most other reviewers. The food is okay, but the staff really make a bad place worse; they are rude and dirty; the diner is dirty and unsanitary. If you have no other options, then so be it...but if you can find gas station sushi or a vending machine, you would probably be better off.

Disclaimer: this is a 24/7 greasy spoon diner on Bourbon Street. Don't expect fine dining or gastropub menu options. The restaurant is adorably small (maybe seats 20 people) and we sat at the counter. It took a little while to get our order in but understandable since there is only one waiter/cashier and one cook. I ordered a fried egg sandwich with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and mayo. It was perfectly tasty and went down nicely with some black coffee. The restaurant interior is very nostalgic with pink tile throughout and Bob Dylan playing through the vintage wall-mounted speakers. I commend the restaurant for having an open kitchen. The only downside to that is we watched the cook pull clumps of pre-packaged hash brown potatoes out of a paper carton. Seems like something they could prepare in-house with a tiny bit of effort. Other than that most food coming out of the kitchen seemed relatively fresh. Good spot for a cheap, low-key breakfast or late night drunk food. No frills, just a hole in the wall diner.

  • Murphy Y.

If you like your food touched after money has been handled, your feet splashed with bus tubs of dirty dishes and your hash browns being spread with someones bare hands after waiting for 15 minutes to be acknowledged, then this is the place for you! Drunk or sober salmonella can get you! Good luck!

    (1)
  • Dom C.

The best advice , about this gritty little 24h diner is to go there drunk! However, do Nnot Run behind the Counters!!! The cook will chase you away with his magic food knife. You can find a lot of late night shenanigins. We where hushed multiple times for our overwhelming love for singing outloud together. Food welll....if you are eating there you really don't care !

My partner and I have been so sick the last 3 days.Intense cramps and diarrhea. The staff was rude and dirty. They looked homeless. They prepared the food on the same counter. No concern for cross contamination at all.My partners sandwich was missing part of the bread.

Great breakfast, the cook that day was excellent. I can't say t much about the waiter he was yelling across the room and the counters where dirty. He had a weird approach to serving. But we really enjoyed the jute box and breakfast was great.

So while in New Orleans many moons ago happened upon this spot, now there is no fan fare or surprise it is what a greasy spoon is supposed to be and like most spoons the food was so good. Now their open kitchen small environment concept works for them. And normally I am against the seeing directly how most of my food is made because most times you won't want to eat it after lol but even with the cook touching everything with his ungloved hands (this is well before the age of grading restaurants being available to the public)......I must say the best burger and hash I have every had and breakfast was nothing to sneeze at. I probably could've eaten there every day but choose to mix it up. Should I go back this is the first place I am visiting.

One of the most dissatisfied experience I have ever had in a burger place, which is america's most favorite food. I have never been to New Orleans before this weekend, and I was excited, and very happy to be at one of the most visited places in New Orleans, the famously "Bourbon St." My beautiful girlfriend and I had been walking around New Orleans for a couple of hours, she suggest to go to this burger spot which is suppose to be "the world famous." With no hesitation I told her "of course baby let's go." Upon arrival it seemed like a normal place to go, we grab a seat at the bar counter. I notice that some of the atmosphere is similar to a third world country type of burger place, not very clean and also not well organized on the table arrangement. We grab a sit and immediately after we sit the cook which is right in front of us starts walking back and in a kinda low voice said " I'm tired of looking at people." I give a look to my girlfriend and we are kind of in the wow factor. Okay so I figure he must have a bad day. But unfortunately was I wrong, my girlfriend and I been waiting for a at least 10 minutes and we still yet to have been show any attention and it was pretty much like we were a fly on the wall. My girlfriend being proactive attempted to talk to a bar worker that was cleaning the table but in a very rudely he ignored her like she was not there. Then she out loud stated "do we go to the cashier area to order or do they come to us? In a rudely manner the same cook as that I thought was having a bad day interrupted her and stated "we will come to you, this is a restaurant!". Once he made that comment and I saw how it upset my girlfriend I told her let's go. I have never never never been in a place and been treated like this in my life. Why even try to have a place of public business if you don't care about the customers. It is highly recommended that the workers have some serious attitude restaurant (bar crew/cooks), in order to have a better experience. This is a cozy, diner food eatery. A go to for movie buffs and Brad Pitt fans ( this is the diner they film Benjamin Button in). Food is quick, hot and fast. A nice place to sit, read a book/newspaper, or just people watch. Warning: the hamburgers are huge and no seperate checks!!!!

  • Asheen J.

Let me start off by saying that at first glance this place looks like another dive diner. However when you can get an egg white and spinach omelet you know you have good options. We ate hear for lunch o. Our way out and food was very good. I got the burger and was initially disappointed that the patty was frozen but I was reassured that it was freshly made and frozen daily for speed purposes. That being said the burger with chili was great.

You cannot get any better than a 24hr diner. My food was quick and very yummy (and affordable). Was an interesting sight seeing bourbon street around 5AM lol

    (4)
  • Lyudmyla M.

Their omelette is fluffy, airy and light, the best I have tried, and I am quite picky when it comes to omelettes. The burger was good, better than 5 Guys. However, they do use lots of grease in their cooking so goodbye skinny jeans. I came here around 6 in the morning and our food took a while even though there were only three tables being served, not including mine.

My friends and a non friend plus Myself had burgers and shakes here. Pretty tasty food, very crowded place..

Always open is the main draw. Also the old school appearance of the place. The employees were just not into doing their jobs on our visit. Tables were piled up with dirty plates and the service was beyond slow and apathetic. The burger was average, but it filled a need we had for food.

    (3)
  • Jennifer F.

It is a fun joint. The jukebox is nostalgic for the almost 40 crowd. The scene between the server and cook is hilarious. The food is average diner food, nothing fantastic, but its a fun time.

  • Amber W.

Worst service ever. We went in for breakfast (9am on a Wednesday) and the place was not busy and my mom asked (nicely) if someone could wipe-down the table which was really dirty and the guy took a dirty wet rag and threw it from behind the counter to the table and said "there you go". We stood there for a second in shock. I don't know if he was trying to be funny or what but it was so disrespectful to my mom. I felt really bad for her to be treated like that when she just wanted to have some breakfast. Obviously, we didn't stay.

  • Ben R.

this is among the most discriminatory experiences i have ever had they simply refused to take our order, as we watched a half dozen parties sit after we did and receive service i didn't realize attitudes like this persisted in a city as progressive as new orleans

the place is a dump. the staff is rude. we got accused of leaving without paying when we stepped inside for the first time. Some douchebag that was a waiter said hey you guys left last night without paying I said that's pretty good seeing as how we didn't even arrive in New Orleans until this morning .I was about to call a lawyer seriously on this guy but told him hes lucky i dont or hed be in deep s. flag this place . i hope it gets torn down

Classic greasy spoon place with super friendly service in the heart of the Quarter. All or a majority of the seating in at the counter. Not just any counter however but one that snakes across the entire diner. Great people watch. Burgers and eggs are what you're looking for. Hear good things about their pie too.

    (4)
  • Candie P.

Clover grill serves up greasy late night plates of disappointment. I have sympathy for staff that has to wait on the late night drunk crowd but.... Don't stay open late if you hate your clientele. This place needs to hire at least one friendly person.

    (2)
  • Stephanie M.

Just sat at the counter with my friend for 15 mins and not one person spoke to us so we walked out. Nasty, frozen pre shaped burger patties are the second reason why we (I) walked out. Did you get those at Costco? Foh.

I absolutely adore this cute little place and what a lifesaver after waddling around Bourbon Street, sipping on Hurricanes and Mango Margaritas. It was a fun Friday night with a warm autumn wind. Lots of happy people in the streets enjoying the NOLA evening. And we are just about ready to wrap up the night as we have an early plane to catch the next morning and we're hungry. All of a sudden, we see the sign for the Clover Grill. I think we were very lucky to find two seats side-by-side at the counter. The atmosphere is kewl and trashy at the same time (in a good way). Friendly servers, watch the food being cooked. Interesting people watching. We ordered double bacon cheeseburgers with onion rings. Wow! Reminded me of the diners in the 1960s. Fresh, piping hot burgers with nicely melted cheese and crispy bacon. The onion rings were superb with real onions and a nice crispy coating. It didn't take forever to get served either. This is the place to snatch up a tasty, diner meal after having drinks on Bourbon Street.

  • Aimee M.

I'm so in love with this place, the cook is so amazing, food is perfect, you couldn't ask for a better place after all the other local kitchens close, you have to make this your late night stop, I wouldn't leave NOLA without stopping in.

Stopped for a bite at a place called The Clover Grill. They cook all their burgers under an American made hub cap. Lots and butter and flavor. Great service. This is a geazy cafe so be warned if you are offended by such a thing. Everything was made-to-order and tasted great.

    (4)
  • Richie K.

In a sea of fried seafood, you provided a much needed eggy respite from it all. Unfortunately, your eggs were greasy and the cook's lack of gloved hands nauseating. Acceptable for Bourbon Street but certainly nothing to write home about.

    (2)
  • AL J.

Honestly, very rude. I left so couldn't tell you much more then I walked in and asked for a menu. They a waiter I guess said people are in front of you. I replied For takeout, his head was going to explode... He said wait there (my guess to die). I left, forget it....

Late night or early morning this place hits the spot. They tell ya straight out if you waiting more than 5 minutes then chill out cause it may be 5 more. Love it. We had breakfast, eggs biscuits hash Browns bacon n coffee. It was good and cheap. Will return tomorrow fo sho

  • JN O.

The food at this little cafe/diner was incredible! They were very friendly and even let us bring our own bottle of champagne at no extra charge. The service was slow, but the menu warned us about that, so I was able to appreciate a slower pace. I will definitely be coming back!

Love this place! Crowded and a bit of a greasy spoon, but worth every second spent savoring their delicious breakfasts!

  • Joyce M.

You're going to want to. I know you will, because we got sucked in too. It's late, you've been drinking, and you're making your way down the tail end of Bourbon St towards your hotel thinking, gosh, I could really go for some french fries right about now. But seriously, just don't. The service was GLACIALLY SLOW which is crazy given that it's a diner. That's the whole point of diner food: it's fast. There was one guy who seemed to be doing all the work, cooking, answering the phone, taking orders. There was another guy who occasionally cleared the tables. And then there were two other guys who apparently were being paid to just stand around aimlessly and play with their phones or kick spilled fries further under the counter or ogle you when you go to use their disgusting bathroom. It took 55 minutes for an order of fries and one hot dog. And guess what? Roaches. ROACHES, YOU GUYS. Which we didn't see until after we were almost done with our abysmally disgusting food. Look, I was on Bourbon St. I'd had a few drinks. I was not a hard sell to stop here and my standards were chemically lowered. But this was a step too far for me.

    (1)
  • Mitch E.

Clover Grill is a great late night spot. When it's busy they pretend that high maintenance items are unable to be served because they are "Out" of the item or the machine is out of service. This is particularly true of any shake or malt items. Meh, if you're tipsy and need food this place works. If you're sober, save your time and money.

They need to get over themselves. Is good late night I'm drunk food, but not great, even at that low bar. But they act like they're doing you a favor, and it takes for effin ever. I take it back. The for isn't actually good. Full disclosure I'm old.

Understaffed for Sunday brunch, so expect to wait a long while. Also, you'll drown in the stench of fried oil and come out smelling like it.

Basic, inexpensive diner food. It's quite good if you keep your expectations at 'reasonable'. That being said, I would go here again. I went here in the morning while all the drunkards were passed out. It was very relaxing.

It was late and I am starving on Bourbon. A couple suggested I check this place out because of their amazing bacon cheeseburger. Well I don't eat bacon but I will destroy a cheeseburger or at least that's what I thought. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries with a Sprite. My order totaled to $23 and the meal was horrible. The fries were tasteless and the burger was just super greasy for no reason. I felt like I was in a creepy diner movie not because of the people but because of the food. The entertainment for me was the cook that kept singing in his very dirty cook attire. I have no problem paying for good food but this wasn't good.

    (2)
  • Chris M.

Had a pretty good breakfast and burger. Contrary to some reviews we received good service from a nice crew working. The omelets looked really good and we could back again. It is a greasy spoon that does exactly what it is supposed to!

    (3)
  • Candace B.

Not the best breakfast ever but still really good. Had the waffle with bacon and grits. I should have asked for the bacon an the waffle to be extra crispy that would be mine only complaint...the waffle had great flavor. This place is small like a tiny Waffle House it is opened 24/7. If you are out super late and need a breakfasts place this is the spot. Has the old diner feel with some great old music on the jukebox.

    (3)
  • Jennifer D.

Absolutely horrible. Our waiter was very rude and kind of a prick and vulgar. Next the cook and waiter switched positions. Wouldn't be bad except the fact that neither of them wore gloves..Cook had dirt under his nails and waiter was handling money and then cooking food without washing hands. Really ruined the whole experience and will never go there again.

Get drunk on Frenchman St. then head here. Perfect place to eat at the end of a long night of partying. Everything is good, hot and cooked to order. The night cook is hilarious and dances around and sings on a good night. Always have a great time here. Get the tots.

    (4)
  • Christopher K.

My wife and I stopped in here after a long night of partying. The next morning when I was complaining of heartburn she told me I ordered a jalapeño swiss burger and didn't like it. That's all I know. 2 stars.

They are alright, considering limited places open 24 hrs, after a night of drinking, comes pretty handy located on bourbon street, but definitely not world best.

ridiculous-my first impression of New orleans was the three employees avoiding us and ignoring other customers as well. AFter 10 minutes of rudeness like I have never experienced before we left. One of the sad employees spoke an apathetic "sorry" as we headed out the door.

    (1)
  • Shauna W.

A cool experience to go inside and have a greasy cheap meal. I was underwhelmed by the food, but had a fun time there. Also, there weren't as many options because it was late, so I appreciated being able to grab a late night bite!

    (3)
  • Chrissy M.

I had to give Clover Grill 4 stars simply for it being such an easy and enjoyable meal after a long week in Nola. This place is by no means fancy, but the burgers are great and it's probably the cheapest place you can eat on Bourbon Street! They cook the burgers under a hubcap - yes you heard me right! It keeps them nice and juicy. The menu is standard diner fare - burgers, hot dogs, etc. The tater tots were a nice side to my cheeseburger! The place is small so prepare to be cramped and it's not really great for large groups but I highly recommend this restaurant. It was fantastic! Oh and the menu has fun little blurbs on it to entertain you while you wait!

    (4)
  • Chad N.

I spent most the early 90's eating here at least once a week. The food is typical greasy spoon diner, but it is really good. I introduced new friends to the Clover Grill this weekend and one commented that it was probably the best burger that he has ever eating in his life. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich and was in love with Clover Grill all over again. It can be tricky to get a table, because they are always packed. However, wait around and see what this great little dive has to offer.

    (4)
  • Bartleby F.

Maybe it was because it was 11:30 at night and we had started at Pat O's at 7 and ended up at Lafitte's and were several drinks in, but this was the best chicken fried steak with grits I've ever had! It's small, kinda shotgun, very inexpensive, and when we were there, full of locals. Great staff, great food.

    (4)
  • Tim W.

Food is great. Breakfast food and hamburgers. But the service is excruciatingly slow.

    (3)
  • Michael K.

The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because they are open 24/7 which counts for something in my book. Otherwise, this place is vile and disgusting. Had a bunch of friends from out-of-town staying in the house next door so they ate here a few times. Probably at around 5 or 6 am after staying out all night drinking. Pretty funny stories they had to tell... We ate here for lunch their last day. I had the club sandwich and my friend had the hamburger. Probably some of the grossest food we have ever eaten. My friends comment: "I guess this place is only good at 6 in the morning after 8 hand grenades when you're so drunk you can't see."

    (2)
  • Jen L.

I love a solid old school diner. And that's what this is. Maybe you'll get a cranky waitperson, but I'd be cranky waiting on drunks too. Maybe your breakfast/burger/waffle will be cooked to perfection or it won't. BUT it's a quick and affordable throwback in the French Quarter and really that's all I need to be a fan.

Small restaurant with a nice small menu for breakfast. We enjoyed the breakfast special -- two eggs a meat and some hashbrowns. The prices are very reasonable and the service quick and friendly. We left with a full stomach and a smile on our face.

Was in town for three nights, and our apt was right by clover so we ended up going twice. Once for a normal breakfast and once at 3ish after a night out in the quarter. The waffle is very very good. If not the best I have had its very close. The club sandwich at 3am was good but nothing compared to the waffle.

CATTY: wait staff, that quickly size-up each patron and serve them accordingly; UNIMPRESSIVE: uneven basic diner fare that is compromised by high turnover; FAIR: pricing but many sides, including fries, are ala carte so it adds up! Oh Clover Grill, what a love hate relationship we've had for 30 years. Turnover is so high here (like its other sister establishments Good Friends, Rawhide, Lafitte's) that it's a crap shoot as to whether you will get a burger and fries almost as good as Nellie Deli, or a burned and greasy breakfast special worse than Deja Vu. Service is highly subjective as well. If you are a hot flirtatious gay man you will fare substantially better than a family of four. Of course it's always amusing to watch the staff smugly marginalize drunken obnoxious females who think they are way more attractive than they really are. Hold on to your boyfriends girls! BETTER 24/7 FQ CHOICES: Nellie Deli, Daisy Dukes, Three Legged Dog, Jimani

After eating at Clover Grill many, many times over the years and enjoying it and recommending it, we will never go back. Last night's meal wasn't edible, the server was a complete jerk AND the bill for a cheese burger & fries and eggs & bacon was $27! My wife's burger was good but not as good as we've come to expect but the eggs were really bad, very runny & swimming in something I couldn't identity. The biscuit was like a rock & cold. The server only came back by to give is our bill after I got his attention. Ridiculous & disappointing. We will go to Deja Vu on Conti the next time we want something to eat on the way in.

Greasy spoon right on Burbon Street! Tiny place but great late night diner! Open 24/7 what more do you need?

  • AaronErin D.

It's a 24/7 spot which is always a plus, it's honestly not very easy to find a place serving past 10pm. After you have been drinking heavily all day/night around New Orleans it does the job. You don't walk into these places expecting gourmet food with 5 star service. You get what your paying for, it's a diner! Keep in mind Backspace bar is open and serves amazing food all night if you are looking for something more "gourmet".

  • Kym C.

Do not eat here EVER. Worst meal in NOLA. Cheap tasting completely unseasoned burger patty, burger king type buns, plastic no-flavour cheese. And at around $9 a burger. It was like putting lipstick on a mcdonalds pig. Plus the tables and menu were greasy. The worst of all was the waiter, he whinged and bitched non stop about the previous customers not leaving a him a very good tip. Well it wasn't worth a good tip for starters - and I shouldn't have to have my regretfully sub par meal ruined even further listening to his disrespectful comments about another customer. If all ur working for is tips then that's why ur not getting them. Because it's about customer service and urs sucked. All that time u spent whinging you could've been wiping tables and menus, or even checking on ur existing customers to see what they needed - which u didnt do once. If there was less than 1 star this restaurant would get it.

I usually end up at this cozy diner when I'm wandering around at night between Bourbon street and Frenchman. I love that they serve breakfast 24 hours. And that they're happy to see you at all hours of the day and night. I usually get breakfast when here because its solid. I've sampled off friends plates, so I also know that their other lunch and dinner stuff is good too.

The Clover Grill & I go way back back to 1979 as a young Gay may it was the place to eat on Bourbon street after a late night of party. Both the Clover Grill & I have just about seen it all in New Orleans, the good times, the bad, and the Katrina ugly. I have always been a strong supporter of my LGBT community. But there are times you have to just tell it like it is. Today I stopped into the Clover Grill at 2:45pm to have a late afternoon breakfast. I sat at the counter and proceed to order an omelet with cheddar cheese, sausage, and onions, hash browns white toast and coffee.I should have known from the start when the coffee was served old & cold that this was not going to go good . My omelet was served and just one look and it was swimming in grease. My hash brown were then over cooked and hard. There was enough grease in my plate to lube every old queens fanny in the French Quarter. I suppose that if its late at night and your drunk, stoned, or just plain stupid to the point that you don't know what your really eating, or care than this is the place to be. Just be sure to have a tall glass of Pepto, and some strong whiskey to wash down the taste of this vomit food. Because you will pay for it in the end. Before you can pay your check it coming out the other end! When Tom wood Enterprises owned this place at least they had some standards. ( As low as they can be) But Tom's staff did keep the place clean. I suspect that since Katrina the Clover grill is under different management? It's also sad to report tat a lot of the LGBT Restaurants "Not there no more." So for me it's time to close the book on the Clover Grill,The food & service sucks worse than a fat whore with a chipped tooth!

Terrible service. We were at a table and literally we're told they had people waiting when there were no people outside waiting. It's ridiculous, there was a couple next to us eating but we were told to leave? We went to IHOP instead, just awful service. Review by Kellie mazzarella

This place is great. We go here every time we're in New Orleans. Hamburgers fried under a hubcap! The service is pretty good for a diner. The food was amazing. I had the turkey club this time, last time had the burger. Both times I w as not disappointed. It's in the gay section of Boubon street, so come with open mind and enjoy!

I just HAD to find this place to give it 5 stars. It was such a fun and memorable experience in New Orleans. We were originally walking to The Court of Two Sisters, saw the prices, and thought hmmm...maybe not for us. Some magical angel of a man saw us and said "Try the place down the street, you won't regret it!" and gave us directions. WOW so happy we didn't do the overpriced jazz brunch thing. Clover Grill was a lot more our style. Super cheap and super buttery. Yep. BUTTER!!! Not for your diet, but um, if you are on a diet in New Orleans I worry about your mental health. We laughed and watched in awe of these cooks. They were so fun to watch at the counter. I had never had grits I enjoyed and these were awesome. The eggs & hashbrowns were great. General service can be summed up by this line on their menu: "If you are not served in 5 minutes, relax, it may be another 5. This is not New York City" Fun place. I'll be back next time I'm in NOLA!

  • Ryne B.

Greasy spoon. Great cheeseburger. Veggies omelette is pretty good too. The service is just not any good though - even for a late night diner. They're just too rude to be cute or funny. I likely won't go back especially since NOLA PoBoys just opened 2 doors down - and they're great!

Breakfast =Death by butter and grease. My wife and I only have 2.5 days to enjoy New Orleans. Now, thanks selecting Clover Grill, we are back in our hotel room, until this butter induced nausea dissapates. I like butter, but my 3 eggs over easy (way overcooked, btw) had pools of butter on them. I lifted the eggs up sideways in an attempt to drain some of the residual butter off. My wife's eggs were scrambled, so the was no extracting any butter ( she is worse off than I). The flavor of the gravy portion of the biscuits and gravy is most akin to eating a stick of butter with small pieces of sausage in it. In addition to the chef's poor culinary skills, he was very slow. Our server was not at the table long enough for me to get a decent feel for his personality. The primary interaction I had with him (beyond taking the order) was requesting Tabasco and being informed they do not have any. The prices on the food were very good, but in this case- you very much get what you paid for. Unless you are someone who would enjoy a stick of deep fried butter, I would strongly advise steering clear of this place. It was bad enough to prompt me to start an account and join Yelp.

Shitty food shitty service. Good thing it's 24 hours because they are slow. Ive been on late night and day time and the late night crew will at least acknowledge you and bring you water. The day time crew will leave you seated without a word and will even start taking orders from people who come in after you. If I could give this place less than a star I would.

We knew when we stopped here that it would not be gourmet, but we had expected it to at least be decent. That was not the case. Encouraged by reviews, we ordered the tator tots and a burger and a BLT. It seems that that simple order was just too much for this place. After a 40 minute wait, we got overcooked tator tots and a BLT without the T. Tator tots in my high school cafeteria were more appetizing! When we asked for the tomato for the sandwich, we were ignored. This place doesn't even deserve the 1 star!!!

Love Clover. Always busy. Best biscuits burgers fries tater tots and onion rings. Had been there before and my group wanted a burger and thought we'd try somewhere else that was supposed to be awesome and wasn't and we never even got asked to order so left. Went on to clover. Should have gone first! Burgers are juicy, made to order. It's a counter diner which I like sitting at counter over the tables. It is small. Seating for about 12 or so at counter and then about 18 or so at tables. But worth it. Breakfast or lunch anytime. Won't try another burger joint when wanting one in NOLA in the quarter again, lesson learned!

Total total end of the night drunkard spot. This is greasy greasy no frills diner food and they are very take you or leave you on customer service. Honestly I am not going to mark them down on the customer service part because if I had to deal with some of the wasted and just plain rude people that we saw in here ALL NIGHT, I too would be a bit whatever and a have my tough mean mug on. Our group of girls were nice the whole time and the staff in turn were nice back. Goes back to age old saying, "treat people how you wish to be treated". I had the build your own omelette with onions and tomatoes in it, no cheese. I had hash browns and wheat toast. The butter was just running out of my omelette but it was soooooo good. The eggs were light fluffy and they made a fantastic sandwich when you put some in between two pieces of that wheat toast, add a dash of ketchup and you have heaven in your mouth. For a ravenous tipsy lady that I was on the two nights I came here, this food was exactly what I needed and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes, my friend got their burger and loved it, the fries were crispy and great too. The hash browns were blah for me and cooled off quickly and just weren't doing anything for me, but they were for my friend who kept picking at them off my plate...haha. My other friend loved the country fried steak she got, said the piece was a little small but she loved it all the same. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take this as my disclaimer. We were a rowdy group of drunk girls out after 5 hours of dancing and drinking, so like I said, don't come here expecting exquisite refined food with subtle flavor hints and white table cloth service. It's packed full of people that just need a hearty meal in their stomach before they crash for the night, and it was packed the both nights we went. Go around 2:00 or 3:00 AM because that is when the wait is non existent and you can walk right in and get a table.

No frills 24 hour diner on Bourbon St. Perfect afterhours food stop to avoid a hangover the day after. Its not a big place but the service is quick and everything is made to order right in front of your eyes. Sit at one of the 12 stools and friendly servers immediately take your order...as long as you don't mind smelling like a grill when you leave. There are about 4 tables for groups. Ordered Battered Chicken Fried Steak served w/ two eggs, hash browns or grits & toast. Prepared simple, generous portion...yummy! This normally doesn't happen but forgot to take a pic of my meal cause I ate way too fast...or maybe it was the alcohol? I dig this place and prices were very reasonable :)

One of the few places around our hotel in the FQ that actually served real food 24/7. Surprisingly most restaurants in the are close around 10pm and you aren't left with many options other than to eat at a hotdog cart or a daiquiri shop. Well don't! Come take a walk to Clover Grill instead. As soon as you walk in the smell of greasy fried food hits you like a freight train! But damn does it make for a good late night meal after walking and drinking for hours. The burger and club sandwich we had were both really good. The sides were really small though, probably only 6 onion rings to an order and a handful of tater tots...wish they'd make em a bit bigger! Other than that this place is your typical, decent, late night burger joint.

I looooove their cheeseburger and tator tots. It be because I've been on my own personal pub crawl... nahhhhh. It's tiny but packed with a punch. The side of attitude is free. They employees are sassy fo sho! But I wouldn't have it any other way. Exile across the street is owned by the same peeps. If you ask really nice like they will let you order at Clover and eat on the balcony at Exile! Or if you run out of libations while you're eat'n, Exile's is a few steps away to help. I always have the best time here. *le sigh*

Great 24 hour diner on Bourbon. Stop in for cheap eats - omelets, hash browns, burgers, pork chops, you name it, all served up from the giant grill behind the counter. My favorite was the friend egg sandwich (a steal at 4 bucks) but my friend got the Special Club on the recommendation of one of the locals and loved it. Staff is friendly and has a good sense of humor - we stopped here more than once for late night eats during our visit and were never disappointed.

Server was extremely rude! Walked in and no one acknowledged us. Walked around lost while the server seemed overwhelmed but ignored us and continued about his business. Had to stop the one server to ask where we placed a Togo order and under his breath, while walking by us, he responded "up front." Waited up front for 10 minutes while he continued overwhelmed by his job and ignoring us with no acknowledgement. Interrupted him again and asked him if he could "take our order and then we could happily wait" and he rudely replied "I have other customers before you". I replied I understand but you can take our order and then we could wait" after a few remarks back and forth he replied "Get out." I worked in hospitality and have never been treated as rudely as I have by this individual.

We came in from a downpour, frozen down into our bones. Their coffee, hot chocolate helped thaw us, with the warmth and cheerful attitude of the waiter (and it sure helps that he looks hot!)- I kinda felt like we had somehow found a portal back to 1950's- awesome!! I had grilled cheese (was in mood for childhood food), and tater tots- we left happy!

Very good burgers, cheap and quick! Extremely nice staff and really attentive to every need. Funny and personable atmosphere. Tons of character. A woman asked to have the music turned down (wasn't bothering me) and the waiter told the story of how the volume knob was taken by the manager so that it could not be adjusted! Love that!

Fantastic Burger Dive! This is not one to be missed after a night of revelry in the Quarter. I have an Apartment a couple blocks away and when visiting my second home, Clover Grill is always on my list of places to stop at. Especially late at night on my way home. If you have the time, pull up a chair at one of the tables on Bourbon Street and watch the "Show". It's a great place to people watch.... You never know what you'll see or what's going to happen. (Don't worry visitors, it's a safe place) The service is friendly, like most places in Nola. But the food...... It's greasy dive burgers at their finest!

Great diner in the heart of the French Quarter. This is a small diner that fills up quickly. The staff is friendly, engaging, and always ready for a good laugh and to rib on the regular customers. Burgers are beefy and juicy here. The daily breakfast special is great as well as the chicken fried steak. The malts are delicious! A stop at Clovers is always a tempation for me when out late in the area.

The craziest place for breakfast in the Big Easy. A major classic. You watch your food being cooked and you still can't believe what you're seeing. Fried potatoes, fried eggs, sausage, gravy, English muffin. Sit at the counter otherwise you miss the whole thing.

Staple. Lovely. What you see is whatyou get. Fab burgers, good breakfast, a little gay, and open all night and all day. What more could you ask for?

  • Mo R.

Absolutely not. Let's talk about civil rights. Picture your inebriated, cold, female self just needing a little fried delights circa 4 am. They let you inside, have you order, then insist you must wait outside for your delights while it is 40 degrees. Let me tell you - displeased. Avoid at all costs.

  • Monique B.

Let me begin by putting this review into perspective: The Clover Grill is typically not the spot you'd begin your night in by any means- this is a tiny little corner diner you pop into at the end of a long night trolling the Quarter or listening to some great music on Frenchmen. Have I stopped in for a quick breakfast when I was stone cold sober? Sure. I typically keep it simple- eggs, toast and a cup of coffee. It may not be the prettiest place and it's often crazy crowded, with somewhat slower service but it does the job and the people are usually the greatest perk.

  • Lindsay A.

Clover Grill is one of those places that your friend who makes Bourbon Street a habit during their stay always tells you is the best breakfast or hamburger or whatever place in New Orleans. It's not. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool diner that makes a good greasy burger under a hubcap, uses a flattop griddle for everything, and is always full of characters. The best time to come in is after drinking on Bourbon (whatever time), right before you breakdown and buy a damn Lucky Dog. Don't buy a Lucky Dog, dear God please. Go get some tots and a cheeseburger here. Get a plate of eggs and biscuits or my personal favorite, a freaking grilled cheese. Get a milkshake, sit back and enjoy the scenery, and think about how you are sitting in a place from Benjamin Button.

We stopped in for breakfast, ordered 2 bacon and cheese omelets, and left feeling sick. The eggs were extremely greasy and the hash browns were soggy and soft. We sat at the counter across from the waffle makers, which look caked in burnt black grease. I don't think they've ever been cleaned.

  • Ted S.

Great greasy dive place for late night breakfast, with a little extra salt from the cook's brow. This place is away a bit from the wild Bourbon street festivities, and doesn't disappoint. Everything is cooked in the bacon grease left over on the griddle, and tastes of it. Yum.

    (4)
  • Kevin L.

24/7 diner with good food at good prices and occasionally get a show from the constant bantering between employees. We always head here at least once on our trips to the Quarter. It does get crowded quick with only a few tables and counter stools, but worth it for us every time.

This place embodies all that is bourbon st. Drunks? Check. Sketchy? Check. Packed?Check. Smells like vomit and armpits? Check. Horrible food? Check. Feels like a health code violation? Check. Last time I went for a burger after a night with friends at the Bourbon Pub, who INSISTED that I give this place another try, I decided that I might need new friends. I don't go to diners expecting Commanders style food, all I want is my burger or hash browns to taste good. Well, you are not going to get that at Cover Grill. The burgers are just some cheep thin frozen patties that have absolutely no flavor and are just swimming in grease, that are served on buns that I swear taste a bit moldy. I might be able to overlook this (cause hey! It's just a diner!) if it hadn't been for the people actually assembling the food. After watching the guy drip sweat all over the plates, wipe his nose repeatedly before grabbing the buns and then actually cough on my food, I lost my appetite. If you are in need of some late night diner food- just go to Camellia Grill (open till 3, great burgers), Yo Mama's (open till 3, also great burgers), Verti Mart (24hrs, cash only, no seating) or Buffas (24hr). There is really no reason to ever go to Clover Grill.

  • Alex H.

How hard is it to make an omelet? It's only three eggs and some filling, yet apparently it's pretty tough to execute well if what I got at Clover Grill is any indication. I ordered an omelet with mushrooms, cheese, and onions. The mushrooms and onions were totally raw and the cheese wasn't melted at all. Amazingly, the eggs were cooked though. Raw onions and eggs aren't tasty whatsoever. I had three bites and trashed the rest. Total waste of time and money, and I left hungry.

This is a great greasy spoon and diner style joint perfect for a very late night meal located in the French Quarter. It's actually located in the middle of the gay and eccentric area of the French Quarter so be prepared to see a very diverse clientele. The food is pretty good but you won' t know the difference after a night of drinking and partying when a cheeseburger, fries and an ice cold coke will bring you back down to Earth. Don't' forget about all the traditional breakfast items like backon eggs and toast too. Although the area is gay and eccentric the Clover Grill is welcoming to all unless you are some kind of asshole and in that case you can find the McDonald's on Canal Street.

  • Nicole M.

This place is awesome! The staff is a little slow to serve you but it was worth the wait, in my opinion. It's a small little diner towards the end of Bourbon Street and they serve breakfast all day, which is my favorite. Pricing is pretty cheap as well.

we wanted a nice good cheap place for breakfast, plus we were hungover. this was it. I still almost a week later think about the omelet I had here. it's no 5 star place but it was so good. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm down there. plus they played Britney Spears when a group of us girls walked in :)

Don't bother going there, the Queens who gave this place some flavor are long gone. The people who work there now don't even bother to acknowledge you when you walk in, let alone say "Good Morning to you. The floor is slippery with last night's grease....why would I want to even taste their food?

    (1)
  • Elyse Z.

Greasy, late night food. Good for a late night, early morning sustenance rejuvenation, but not a place that I would willingly go to sober or in the daylight hours. This is really just good to sponge up the alcohol in your belly. Not fast service, but great people watching opportunities!

Holy divas. The servers acted like they hated their job and you. My bf and I were looking for a quick bite to eat, unfortunately it took 15 minutes to be acknowledged. I agree with others about the questionable cleanliness of the place but hey it's bourbon street. I The food was greasy and not terrible, I love diners but I definitely wouldn't recommend this one unless you like to be ignored.

This is one of our favorite places to get breakfast while in NOLA. They are open 24 hours a day. It's very small but comfortable diner. I like the fact that all your food is made to order right in front of you. The omelet is a winner and prices are very reasonable. This past time we went for dinner and had the burger. It was just ok, nothing special. Frozen patty with fresh toppings. The fries were the typical frozen ones but are made to order and were hot and fresh. Lots of different characters working here. Most are friendly, a few are sassy, but they are always entertaining.

    (4)
  • Nichole C.

On our last day in NOLA, my friend and I came across this tiny little greasy spoon and wandered in. It was perfect. The server was fun, prices were cheap, and the burgers were great (and there was bleu cheese! YES!). Nothing here is going to blow your mind, but it sure is good for the price. It is also open 24 hours and plays all retro tunes. I think we heard some Cher and Blondie while we were there. Excellent. Overall: Cheap, good, and fun. You can't go wrong.

    (3)
  • Bee Z.

Great old school diner environment, takes you back in time. The flamboyant cook and waiter (who seemed like he was maybe the guy in charge) were fun and made for fun environment. The music selected by the waiter through the jukebox also contributed to the party, good time vibe. The food itself was good. I had a mushroom swiss burger with some delicious crunchy tater tots. The burger was good, but I have had better. Breakfast quantities are generous for the money. I recommend this place for a nice start to a party day in NOLA or even a midday burger

    (4)
  • Jay A.

Diner food with an attitude! Fine for a late-night breakfast or burger. I have my doubts about the overall cleanliness of the place, and could see that hand-washing is not a common practice among the cooks or servers. The obvious answer?.... make sure that you have enough alcohol in you to kill the germs.

Went here for the burgers, which are supposedly some of the best in the city. The burgers were ok-- not the best I've ever had, but not bad. I guess I was expecting something different. I see this place more like a late night, Waffle House, don't care where I eat as long as I get some food, kind of place.

The best tater tots in the universe. Good burgers to boot. We had good service

Another old favorite haunt! Yummy burgers (I split one with mushroom, cheese dressed) and fries! My friends had a grilled cheese with bacon and loved it. Another friend had a bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed it. The burgers are known for being cooked under a hubcap. The bathroom is tiny but clean (gotta go through the kitchen to get to it bc it's outside in the courtyard). The waiter, Will was super friendly and attentive! Was annoyed by an irate gay man but whatever, I could handle him! :)

Really fun place on burbon, open 24 hrs a day which is kind of a must for around there. Got a cheeseburger with a fried egg and chili cheese fries... I know not the healthiest thing ever but it kind of comes as common knowledge when your going to a place like this. Great greasy meal after a day of drinks.

A good place for cheap late night food or breakfast but the service and food quality were below average. We ate at the counter where we could watch our food being made. None of the ingredients appeared to be fresh. Most of the ingredients came pre-prepared out of a bag or carton. I got an omelette with tomatoes, mushrooms and Swiss. Both the omelette and the hash browns that came with it we're extremely greasy. Big portions if you're looking to save a few bucks but the quality is definitely lacking.

This is a little diner, if you want a good sandwich (I had the club and its huge), burger or breakfast food after drinking on Bourbon street try it out. Very small place.

I am the kind of person who uncontrollably laughs during situations that are so beyond awful that you literally question yourself, "Is this really happening?". To say the least, I could of died from laughter at Clover Grill. This place was a huge joke. I am shocked at how many good reviews this place receives. Perhaps, the people who leave these good reviews are not sitting at the bar and watching exactly HOW their food is being prepared. There are a countless amount of health violations going on in this place. First of all, NONE of the staff were wearing gloves while preparing the food..the entire time!! The cook that was leaving during a shift change was assigned to tally an inventory before he left for the day. He placed the disgustingly old and tarnished scale directly in front of us and weighed all of the ingredients directly on the scale, without any type of barrier separating the food from the scale. Seriously? Sick! Our food took a ridiculous amount of time because of how backed up they were at the grill. The staff was absolutely hilarious. We heard the cook say, "I can not wait to get the **** out of this place", while he roughly and carelessly threw our frozen patties on the grill, resulting with them flipping up onto the nasty, greasy spotted wall. There were several inappropriate conversations happening right in front of us and curse words being thrown around as if they were in their own home. All of their food was frozen and stripped from plastic baggies. The chili (that is apparently their specialty) tastes exactly like canned chili. The burger that I waited nearly 30-40 minutes for was absolutely doused and dripping with grease. It was sloppily slapped together and was extremely messy to eat. At first, the burger tasted good, but after eating half of it I began to feel sick due to the amount of grease. The tator tots were tasty and crispy, but you could tell they had been cooked in old oil. Also, it is a guarantee that you will smell like greasy, bowling alley food for the remainder of the day. Ultimately, I ended up giving the rest of my burger to a homeless man on Bourbon, and I hope he enjoyed it more than I did.

If I wasn't told about this place, I would have never walked in. Grungy from the outside, cozy in the inside. It's one of those sit, order, eat, leave kinda places. Quick and easy. Came here when we were both feeling icky from the night before. My friend ordered a three egg omelet and it was HUGE. I eyed one from a customer and knew it'd be too much for my poor stomach so I ordered a simple fried egg sandwich. Delicious and satisfying. One of the cashiers was dancing and singing along to the music in the diner. It was cute. The burgers were their speciality but didn't get a chance to try it out. Cheap and easy breakfast. Done and done.

Great late night spot! Steaming hot double patty burger with cheese, bacon, mushrooms and jalapeños. Seriously the most delicious and decadent burger I've had in quite awhile. Certainly wasn't the fastest but on a packed parade Saturday night it's too be expected. 24 hours of awesome. I'm in love. Why did it take me so long to try this place? Oh yeah, the Bourbon Street address.... Glad I overcame my prejudices!

Any negative reviews about poor service or poor food must be competitors trying to give them a bad name. This is THE place to get a late night bite after a night on Bourbon St. Great staff and great great food!

This is the epitome of a greasy spoon with a great attitude. The owners have a sense of humor (as evidenced by the menu), the employees are just friendly or friendly with a side of sass, depending on who serves you. Both times, we went for breakfast. Omelets are so fluffy you would swear it was a half dozen eggs, bacon is always cooked perfectly, and the sides, while not the best of the best, still hit the spot. One of the cheapest eats for breakfast in the city, and well worth the visit. Like everywhere else in the city, if you go in acting the fool, you will be treated in kind. Go in friendly, we get great service. Simple as that.

Unfortunately, the last dining experience at Clover Grill was very disappointing. I think they have forgotten that customers come their for good fast greasy food and great friendly service. Its a cool 'hip' place to go after your drunk but if your sober you realize its not so good. We sat at the counter this time, so we could see our food being prepared by the short order cook. We waited FOREVER for a few grill cheese sandwiches, a burger, and a club sandwich. It got so bad the waiter had to help cook. All three grill cheese sandwiches were burned on one side. Just before that, we saw the cook toss two burned grill cheese sandwiches in to the trash but he still burned ours and then served them to us! One was so inedible, we had the waiter remove it from our bill. The tator tots are my favorite at Clover. However, I noticed a batch of tater tots sitting in the fryer basket when we sat down. So after about 30-45 minutes, these same tots were placed on my plate. I didnt even get fresh tots! Now that's a crime! To make things worse, the cook then looked at our ticket and saw that we had another order of tots so he removed some from my plate so he could place them on my friends plate. So we got old stale tater tots and small portion. How lazy can you be? I also could tell you about what I saw when the cook cleaned out the grease tray out from under the grill but I don't want to gross you out. Clover Grill please get back to the basics. Clean up your act, cook great greasy food, and make sure your service is friendly and fast.

Best place about this dive diner is that it is 24 hours, next best thing is that it is cheap for Bourbon Street & the French Quarter, next best thing are the tasty burgers. Worst thing about this place is it is very close to the main gay bars on Bourbon and on rare occasion the "alternative lifestyle" folks that stumble in here are a bit too randy and wasted to take a simple "no" for an answer when they proposition you so you have to elevate the response to very rude and obnoxious levels so you can enjoy your food in peace... hummm is this how women feel when I do such obnoxious things... wait I NEVER do such things... mostly hardly ever have I never been so obnoxious at least not since the Red Dress Run :) This place is usually a bit of a walk from where I'm usually indulging in my ongoing quests for fun & adventure so the walk alone works up a good appetite. They have other things on the menu but I've only ever eaten cheeseburgers and tator tots here and I've enjoyed them quite a bit but then again I've always been... ahem... rather possibly past the tipsy point and this food always serves to give you the second wind you need to continue your adventures. They finish the burgers off by placing a hubcap over them to really steam lock in some flavor. Definitely not my first choice for a meal during normal hours in the Quarter but always a nice choice around 4am!

If you stroll onto this side of Bourbon (the quieter, nicer, gayer side), then you may stumble upon this 24/7 greasy spoon. If you want classic diner food to soak up the liquor, the Clover Grill will do you right. Have the country fried steak with hash browns or the burger with tots. Service is quick and friendly, but don't overstay your welcome, especially when it's busy. Also, don't use the bathroom unless you absolutely have to, just saying.

I'm not completely sold on this spot. It was perfect for picking up a bite to eat for the family after strolling down Bourbon for a couple of hours, but don't know that I would stop here without a gut full of liquor, just being honest. I will add that my son and hubby loved the burgers and gave them a thumbs up but I'm just in the middle. The burger patty was thick, but didn't taste like 100% beef as I am accustomed to in the lone star state. Also, while the burger starts at only $7 I think, by the time you add cheese, bacon and fried egg, plus fries and a drink, you are at more than double that. I paid $44 for 3 orders of the aforementioned items. In short, I'd probably return here if nothing else was open or at the request of dh or ds, but I will try an omelette next time.

As Samuel L. Jackson said in Pulp Fiction, "I do love the taste of a good burger." This is where I go if I'm craving a tasty burger in New Orleans. It's a little joint located on Bourbon St. that is famous for their "hub cap" hamburgers. This is definitely not fine dining but if you're in the mood for a greasy burger then you gotta try Clover Grill. Now, you mind if I have some of your tasty beverage to wash this down?

Well sitting at the counter is definitely interesting as you get to see everything. Be warned you might not want to see everything. The eggs and bacon are real - whew! But the hash browns are out of a Sysco box and then covered in liquid butter. It was fascinating to watch the one lady chef pull it all together however. The diner was freezing cold - 69 degrees!! but was cheerily decorated for Halloween. The counter was pretty full, the 5 tables empty, however it took the cashier/waiter a good minute to come take my order. When he did however he was friendly. I heard they ran out of waffles for the customer next to me but subbed in 3 pancakes for the same price so points for customer service. All in all when I was done eating my omelet which was actually pretty decent I rushed for the door because my ears and fingers were completely frozen. Accepts AMEX.

Greasy spoon, but charming. My late night spot. Nothing fancy here, just diner food. It's hard to get a seat when it's late. When I'm in NOLA, I'm here at least 3-5 times a trip.

STOPPED in late on a Sunday evening. Small crowd inside..it's got the vibe of an old-school greasy-spoon diner..but I found it to be clean & the wait staff was very friendly as well as the cook staff... gave us a $1 to start playing the jukebox & then took our orders... one of us ordered a LOADED omelet.. it was soo HUGE couldn't eat it all.. but delish.. My greasy old-school cheeseburger was THE BOMB.. probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had.. and I've had a lot of 'em. I've read some of the reviews on here & the ones who call the customers "sketchy" and the waitstaff too.. come on? You are on Bourbon Street..and furthermore the gay end of Bourbon street... it's Not the Ritz! But I'm a 51 year old white middle-class woman & I LOVED IT! Will DEF go back next time I'm on Bourbon that late. Food was awesome!

You have just walked into the stereotypical diner. Right down to the tile floor, tight spaces, and 11 stool counter seating. There are also a few tables. If there is a line, wait. The food and atmosphere is well worth it. I had a classic cheeseburger and fries. The burgers are cooked to a steamed perfection under a hub cap and the "shoestring" fries are right on! The breakfast food is greasy (in that good southern cooking way) and will make a good base for any day you want to spend inthe Big Easy! The prices couldn't be a better deal for your blast from the past trip. This diner is always a stop on my trip and worth it as it is the ultimate hangover cure! They dont serve alcohol, but dont fret my rookies...just grab a bloody mary at that cool little bay across the street and walk on in! You are in fact in New Orleans! If youre driving I cannot tell you what to do about parking...you should leave your car elsewhere.

Omg.. This place, It's like heaven and hell combined lol. I DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PAIR OF BALLS. But yah, I loved this place. Our waiter was the booomb, such a great guy, personal and funny, but very professional at the same time. The food was good. My mom though, being the type of picky person she is didn't like it very much, but she said it was okay lol. I got the porkchops which were great, cut just the right size, with 2 over-easy eggs and some sysco hashbrowns. (I can tell c; ) But yah, if you like a restaurant that is full of character and talkative locals, this is the place to come!

An excellent greasy spoon located right on Bourbon street - perfect for an early-morning fuel-up or a late-night hangover cure. My boyfriend and I ate here a couple of times on our trip - since it's open 24 hours a day, it was an extremely convenient place to grab a bite to eat. I had the build-your-own burger, which was excellent - they cook and assemble your food right behind the counter, so it was nice to see how the process works. I also had the gravy and biscuits, which were less good... then again, I am used to the gravy and biscuits from my grandpa - who grew up in the south, so maybe I'm a bit biased. Like most of New Orleans, the service here was consistently friendly - though it was definitely no frills, i.e. don't expect anyone here to kiss your ass. I'm sure they've seen their fair share of idiotic, entitled tourists and they certainly don't need (or, let's not kid ourselves here, HAVE) to put up with it to get business.

I was deeply in love with Clover Grill once. It was fun and exciting. So much so that I took a tshirt when I moved away and told people that if they visited this fair city (which I've since returned to), that they should look Clover up. That was then. It's been a long time since the fiery days of Ms Earl, and I feel that the magic is no longer there. The service has suffered in Ms Earl's absence and these days it's horrific and obviously preferential. The food suffers too or at least it feels like it does. Perhaps in my memory I've sugar coated the past and it wasn't as good to me as I remember, but now it seems like a bad idea...unless I've been drinking a lot of whiskey. The decor is wonderful; it feels like a diner that's sort of slipped out of time (they used it in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button). I keep going back and giving it another chance though, because I was in love with it once and i keep hoping it'll be great again.

9 out of 10 times, this place will have awesome service given that they are a very small 24 hour diner that serves greasy food that is less than spectacular but may save your life and sanity under the right circumstances. The staff are usually fast, friendly and efficient and are to be comended since they have to deal with French-quarter drunkards on a consistent basis. 1 out of 10 times you will run into an asshole who will leave you for ages to take your orders and bark at you if you say that you want both coffee and water. I think I eventually got a smile out of him, but that may be wishful thinking as he may well not be capable of happiness.

I was very skeptical of this place but my travel buddy really wanted to try it out. Ordered a burger and I got even more skeptical when they threw a frozen patty on the grill and covered it with a hub cap. Frozen patty? I knew this place was going to suck. Guess what? I was dead wrong. The burger and fries were freaking great. Great place to chill and sober up after a night parting on Bourbon Street.

My fondest memory of Clover Grill was the first time I went there... it was when I was 13 (or 14) during a visit to the French Quarter on Lundi Gras with my Mom and a friend. My friend and I begged my Mother to take us to Bourbon St. because neither one of us had experienced it during Mardi Gras and she reluctantly agreed. A few hours of mayhem and one naked guy doing a hand-stand later, we all decided that we were hungry and done with the crowd. We agreed we would look for a place to eat in the direction of where we parked, so we headed that way. Within minutes we happened on the greasy smell of the Clover Grill so we decided, "yum, let's do it." What happened next became an instant classic (well classic story to re-tell). In retrospect, I feel bad for my Mom, first the madness of Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street; my Mom most have covered our eyes countless times trying to shield us from the nudity...then we entered the Clover Grill to eat and even more hilarity ensued. From the menu, to the servers to the other patrons. The experience was a blast and the burgers were good. Can't go wrong with good, greasy food at Clover Grill... especially if it's with your Mom!

    - burgers and fries were good - service was southern friendly mixed with the over the top attitude of our queen server (this was a good thing) - it was slow, which we didn't mind at all, but don't come in here if you're in a rush - it was pretty filthy -

I had noticed this place a few times when I was in town for Decadence last year, but never really cared enough to go for a meal. I, inexplicably, waited until my last night. The place is a bit aged and grimy, from the time I sat down to the time I walked out with my food seemed like forever, and the food, while decent, wasn't necessarily anything amazing. But this place has a certain charm about it that makes me wish I had gone more than once. The servers/cooks were very nice and good at their jobs so that added to the atmosphere a bit more. With it being so conveniently located by the bars and being open 24/7, I can see myself going more often next time I'm in NOLA. IDK if this will be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd recommend checking it out at least once. It's inexpensive, the food isn't bad at all, and it'll feel like the best recovery food ever after a long night of partying, drinking and umm...possibly cruising...what more do you really need? If you're choosing to party it up in the quarter, your tastes probably aren't gonna be all that exquisite, anyway. :-)

Love the dive scene, club sandwich, bacon and waffle (had a clover imprint in the waffle) were all pretty good but the burger was awful. Awful, don't even wanna know what kind of meat it's made from. Waiter and cook were awesome, will go again but will skip the burger.

We found this place after an epic fail trying to get a bite at port of call. It was around 2ish and empty there was only one other person there so service was pretty quick. I had delicious biscuits and gravy (for the first time ever) and was.not disappointed. It was the Perfect cure for a hangover from a long night of hurricanes and hand grenades. Oh and my friend had the pecan pie and loved it. I think it is open 24 hrs which is a major plus.

I'm going to start off with I DO NOT recommend this place to anybody. I left with warning the customers outside about how horrible the service was. We waited 45 minutes for the "server" to take our order. I had to walk up to him ten minutes after placing our order to even get our coffee while we waited for our food. The cook then served me my omelet, but the cheese was ice cold and not melted, whatsoever. I then pointed it out to him and he told me the eggs cooked faster than the cheese and then refused to acknowledge me after that. I also noticed the excessive amount of cross-contamination at this place. DO NOT go to this place!!! Horrible service, horrible cooks and horrible customer service!!!!

Good food, fun environment, great staff = Excellent dining experience. Whenever someone tells me they are going to NOLA, I tell them they have to stop by Clover Grill at least once. I love breakfast and was happy with the options on the menu. And the prices are not over the top. When I go we like to order a couple extra side items to share. Great shakes!

We took FOREVER to decide on dinner and saw this place. I remember the recommendation from the HBO series Treme. I really dont like leaving negative reviews because I work in a small business - it's bad karma, but we sat at the bar and could see the guy cooking which at first was like a show. So my husband ordered a chicken salad sandwich and I got a waffle... and we watched the hubcap burger action, all very cool. I really wanted to like this place. Until the cook reached into the premade chicken salad thing barehanded, no glove, clearly no spoon, and hand-scooped the chicken salad onto my husbands sandwich. He didnt say anything, didnt eat his sandwhich and we left. He's a cook, he understands what it's like when your getting slammed and said: "I can understand touching toast, or even greens, but full hand in the chicken salad..I couldn't eat it"

Diner food at its best. And best of all???? They serve tator tots! I love a good, crispy tot, and they don't disappoint. Get a burger and add whatever fixings you want. I've had it with mushrooms, grilled onions and blue cheese and I've had it with a fried egg. Both are delicious! I've never had any issues with the service. The waitstaff has always been friendly and quick. Plus they play good tunes all day! Depending on the time of day, you may have to wait, but it's totally worth it.

  • Carla V.

This place is about the experience and not the food. It's just breakfast people, and yes, it is delicious, cheap and no matter what you order it will be a 3,000 calorie dish. Borrowing from Lisa S, she is right, the servers are very much modernized "Mel's Diner" castoffs. I'm surprised they are not a cash only restaurant. The reason people love this place is because of the cavalier attitude, people watching and stories that are shared at this place. It has it's own unique kind of charm. The employees are brash and friendly, but with the limited seating and limited workers, they'll get to you when they get to you. That's the downside...because there is always a wait. A wait to get your food and a wait to get your foot in the door. The wait for a table is the wait of shame and it takes place outside - rain, hail, sleet, snow or hellaciously hot, you have to wait outside and tell everyone who approaches the door, "get to the back of the line". Strangers are really receptive to that, so embrace and belt it out in song if you so choose. People at the counter will also try to poach your table like vultures on a carcass, so expect attitude from the customers as well. Everyone should eat here once in a while, but it's not a staple. You can get breakfast anywhere, anytime in the quarter. It's not an in and out place, so expect this meal to take over the rest of your morning.

I ate here, and didn't die. Cheese fries and a burger. It rocked. The bathroom was gross, but that's because some dumb tourist in a pink t-shirt over his white collared shirt clogged it. Enjoy.

Boo on this place. They were only semi busy, we wait 15 minutes to have the snotty waitress even acknowledge us. By the time we actually get a 'hi' we order the breakfast special, she looks at her watch and it's 2 minutes past 11, and she refuses us the breakfast special. Well honey, if you actually took our order within a reasonable time of us sitting down, it'd have been well before 11.

Very small with rude and inattentive waiters. Waiter took our orders and finally after about 45 minutes dropped a plate of overcooked fries on the table and muttered something about the food delay. When the food arrived the order wasn't correct and anything fried was either overdone or underdone. The BLT arrived without any T and when asked we were told they were coming. The waiter never came back but we did hear him tell another table they were out of tomatoes. Burger was nothing special and the tater tots were a mess - not worth the trip. Even when plastered I would avoid the place. There are other places to go to sober up.

We recently stopped in for burgers, fries & shakes around 4pm on a Friday. I had seen Clover Grill on Yelp and decided to give it a whirl. We're SOOOO glad we did! One rule: BE NICE TO THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE! They're open 24/7 so of course they're not going to put up with rude people. I can't even imagine putting up with the rude drunken loudness that comes in there in the early morning hours. Be rude... you'll get somewhat rude service back. Be nice... you'll get a funny & great experience. This place IS a dive type of diner - there are no bells and whistles. Sit at the counter and watch your burger being grilled under an American made hub cap... because it definitely tastes better that way. Don't ask... it just does. Plus when you sit at the counter you get the chance to joke back and forth with the people who work there and that just makes the experience even that more enjoyable. Sides are a la carte so be sure to budget in your head accordingly. Tip fairly. Be courteous. Enjoy your delicious food. It's that simple!

This place is great! In town by myself on business, I came in and sat at the counter for some breakfast eggs, toast and coffee. Friendly service, great tunes pumping, good conversation if you want and some extra buttered toast. $4+. I can only imagine the scene at night. Will have to check that out another time. It would be a great place to pre-game with a juicy burger.

Will NEVER go back again! I have been here several times in the past and had a pleasant time. It is what it is, a small diner with some local charm. The food is nothing special. On my last visit, 3/14/2014, I vowed to never return to this place again. After waiting for at least 10 minutes for service, my friend who had never been here before, made the "mistake" of asking a worker behind the grill for service. He shot back in a nasty tone, "he wasn't our server, this isn't fast food"! My friend apologized; the "grill person" didn't. We waited another 10 minutes and still no one took our order. Mind you, it wasn't particularly busy at this point. We decided to get up and leave rather than give this establishment money. The service absolutely sucked. Definitely not worth the wait or the money. Go elsewhere, you'll be glad you passed this "treasure" up.

Possibly the best deal in New Orleans! Burgers are no frills but the wait staff is friendly and the food is fresh. This is a gem as far as I am concerned. You get your money's worth but add ons can jack up the bill. Classic!!!

The only bad experience we had in New Orleans was at the place. We walked in at 2am coming back from the rebirth brass band show(great band btw). The place was half empty, so they sat us down at a table and left. And i mean, really left. we sat there for about 20 minutes with no menu or a glass of water. We didn't mind at this point as a couple locals beside us were telling us it's not about the food here, it's more about The experience. Another 10 minutes had passed, 3 other groups that came in after us had been served, I was getting extremely annoyed by this point, so I raised my hand, made eye contact with the server with a BIG SMILE on my face, he nodded at me, and went back to sorting the folks. I couldn't believe it! The locals we were talking to that came in right after us had already gotten their food. They even said that the service is never great, but they couldn't believe it is that bad today. So 30 minutes with no water or menu, our server deliberately ignored us, we walked out. keep in mind, this is a tiny place, you can't really walk past ppl without saying excuse me. We knew this place was known for its servers' "attitude" towards customers, but ppl should still get served at some point. It's the least bit of respect they could have shown their customers. If you're in New Orleans, there are plenty other cheap and great diners in that area, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

When it comes to diner food it does not get better than this. They have all the traditional diner fare you would expect cooked fresh and fast. We have eaten here several times and consider it a tradition when in New Orleans. Their burgers are great, breakfast is delicious (assuming you like lots of butter on everything), and their waffles are hands down the best. We have always had the same cook and server and they seem to truly love what they do and embody New Orleans hospitality. The Clover Grill is just unapologetically honest diner fair served at its best.

The diner is very small and very limited in space but the food was good. I had eggs overeasy with biscuit and gravy and I was full by the end. If you want a quick meal and don't care about the decor than head on down there. For those who are complaining about greasy think about the type of place it is. It's a small end diner with a single grill its to be expected.

A great late-night greasy spoon. My fella and I stopped here after a night on Bourbon street. The food is good enough to soak up some alcohol in your system. Don't expect any health food here. It's burgers and fries, and all kinds of fried goodness. The service is always lovely, but the walk to the restrooms is a little frightening. You have to go through the kitchen and down some stairs, and across a back patio to a little door. The interior is tiny, but we've always managed to snag a table without a wait. Prices are more than reasonable.

The best 24 hour diner I have ever been to. Especially when you're on Bourbon Street anyway. The burger was one of the best I've ever had (and I LOVE a hamburger -I've done my research on what constitutes a good burger). I regret never coming here for breakfast, but definitely a spot worth popping in to.

Great diner food! I go here for breakfast and a show. Sit at the counter and pay attention to the interactions between the staff. It's a riot. No fancy food here, just good, diner grub at a reasonable price.
